This spin of trying to act like Floyd was some green prospect now?
It was Floyd's 28th professional fight....and he was in his prime at 25 years old when he fought JLC AND he was ranked #5 P4P while JLC was nowhere near the P4P list. Andre Ward fought Kovalev in his 31st professional fight and was ranked #4 P4P while Kovalev was #2 P4P
JLC may have not been on the P4P list for 2002, however he was still the consensus No.1 ranked lightweight & WBC World Lightweight Champion at the time plus the No.1 ranked lightweight for 3 years straight (2000, 2001 & 2002). Also Mayweather for the first time ever in his career was moving up from Super Featherweight to Lightweight for the WBC World Lightweight Title against JLC, unlike Ward, who had previously fought in the light heavyweight division 2 times prior to his fight with Kovalev along with having fought for a light heavyweight title prior Kovalev (vacant WBO InterContinental) light heavyweight against Alexander Brand).
So what Mayweather accomplished against JLC, especially considering Floyd moved up in weight the first time in career (from Super Featherweight - Lightweight) to win the WBC Lightweight title (along with vacant
The Ring lightweight and lineal lightweight titles) far and above exceeds what Ward accomplished with Kovalev.
Ward fought a better opponent and pretty much swept the 2nd half of the fight...........something Floyd couldn't do in the 1st fight vs JLC. Just facts
Ward also got knocked down by & was pummeled by Kovalev for nearly the entire fight...................something that didn't happen to Floyd in his 1st fight vs Jose Luis Castillo. Plus Ward was in tip top physical shape with no prior injuries unlike Mayweather who still fought Castillo with a torn rotator cuff. Just facts!
And 114-113 on all 3 judges scorecards for Ward over Kovalev vs 116-111 (2 judges) & 115-111 for Mayweather over Jose Luis Castillo is a major difference in scoring & clearly shows how Ward barely escaped with a win.
Also if we really compare performances between Ward & Kovalev vs Mayweather & JLC, only a fool would think that Ward had a better overall performance in comparison.
This means what exactly though?
Exactly what it shows below!
You can't call Andre Ward the "Jordan" of boxing with horrible performances like these below:
Be an Olympic Gold Medalist & get knocked out by a unranked fighter who's current record is 23 wins/24 losses & 4 draws!
BoxRec - Darnell Boone
Andre Ward is currently "Jordan of Boxing" meaning HE'S the 1 and there's no other who can replace him. Not even Floyd
Even delusional people have a right to their opinion.
Name a fighter that Floyd beat, outside of Pacquiao and Corrales, that was a better opponent than Kovalev who was ranked #2 P4P, undefeated, in his prime, and held 3 of the 4 Championships in the class?
You can respond back once Ward is 49-0, a five time World Champ & a lineal champion in four different weight classes like Mayweather is!
Don't worry, I'll wait!
That would've cleared all this up if Floyd would've taken the bait
Andre Ward needs to STFU selling wolf tickets and worry about redeeming himself & his reputation after that atrocious, embarrassing 1st match where Kovalev punked him most of the fight before even
coming at a boxer like Mayweather.
