As for the thread itself, I kinda get Paulie's point, but dude has had numerous opportunities while having a boring style so his own logic doesn't even apply to himself.
Even then if you fight hard and make for good fights while losing you'll still get calls for more fights. Word to guys like Mike Alvarado, Prescott, Gatti, PED, Lundy, Soto Karass, etc....Its just that you got boxers out there that don't want to try their hardest to win decisively and end up stinking out the joint in a hard to score fight. nikkas blackball themselves because who wants to participate or watch a fight like that on a regular basis.
A lot of factors went in to fighters being over protective with their records while shunning losses and praising "0's"
- Networks and managers overpaying A side boxers to fight over matched opponents
- Stalling out big fights from happening by trying to keep guys undefeated instead of rolling the dice on competitive fights
- Floyd popularizing being undefeated and casuals, some fans and some actual boxers taking the bait and running with it.
- Media appreciating skill over effort too many times. Thus making some boxers entitled, feeling that just being highly skilled is enough to become a star like being in good memorable fights don't matter.
Hell all the praise Loma been getting recently pretty much shows you that boxers that are highly skilled an entertaining will get love. Paulie in his prime was neither
