First, parables and sayings exist in the Bible. But the Bible is largely historical.

Second, some Christians take historical events and historical people and call their existence/actions parables and allegories which is not always true. David did slay Goliath. Jonas did exist, but I doubt he was in a whale, (God overcomes the physical but God doesn't change the rules of nature)

Creation story comes from Mesoptamia, and Abraham crossed the Sinai Peninsula into Africa and brought the story with him.

Point to any passage in the Bible and we can debate the finer points.

I just have a few questions...
What are your views on the creation story? How much of it is to be taking literal?
Do you think it was people of that time trying to make sense of their world, similar to other civilization's creation stories, or do you believe the creation story are actual historical events given to Moses by God?

Peace

This is the reason religion is on the decline in the US. I am an agnostic but i do realize that the church has been a fortress for the black diaspora since we came to the Americas on slave ships to cope with slavery and a whole host of other issues we had to deal with white folks. However i do wish the black church followed the strategies that NOI has done to help the community.

being a "christian" is about repenting from immorality, loving your neighbors as yourself, blessing those who harm you, praying for you enemies, putting away all malice, not returning evil with evil, being honest, not committing adultery, not committing murder, giving to those in need and being a living example to those around you.
theres nothing wrong with that, but it doesnt make your fairytale true :heh:

you can do all of those things without fearing the sky

Creation story comes from Ancient Mesopotamia with some changes. After all, Abraham did cross the Sinai Penisula into Africa and brought the story with him. Creation story was given to Moses by Abraham, and most likely historical mixed with tradition.

So if God answers your prayers, then it's you have gods favor and he's faithful, but if he doesn't answer your prayer, then believers just fall on the " God has something better" or "God knows what's best" excuse.

I believe there was a study done in a hospital of a group of patients who received prayer from a prayer group and a group of patients who didn't receive any prayer...

In the largest study of its kind, researchers found that having people pray for heart bypass surgery patients had no effect on their recovery. In fact, patients who knew they were being prayed for had a slightly higher rate of complications.

So the patients who knew they were being prayed for did even worse. :ohhh:

So they got prayed on. Maybe they should have had hands laid on them by Benny Hinn.
