snow would have got spins in 2000

You think so? I personally do not but am curious on your opinion why.

Soulja Boy is a poor example and I say that as someone who thinks hes the fukking worst. The reason I say he's a poor example is because what he lacked in lyrics he made up for in resourcefulness, smarts, and hard work. He played the Internet game right. He was making YouTube videos, he was all over Myspace making posts, he saw the wave and fukking paddled hard....the kid was hustling, period.

I could be wrong but I think that is what @Wacky D is getting at. You needed a little bit more 'hustle' in the 2000s.

The fact you are too dense to understand a simple point, that even a crappy gimmicky rapper like Snow could have a #1 record and sit in the top 10 of HIP HOP CHARTS in the 90s, says a lot about you.

Ill never understand why posters have such a hard time staying in context of the topic at hand. Wacky D is saying the 90s had a lower point of entry, I provided an example of someone who benefitted from the lower point of entry. Pretty fukking simple.

That NYC public education system tho.... :mindblown:

:what::what::what:

the fact u continue to use a white canadian reggae artist as a rapper to make a hip hop point is fukking unbelievable

:mindblown::mindblown::mindblown:

guess u never heard the term 'apples n oranges'

Shaggy had name recognition already, he shouldn't be counted.

All those 1 hit wonders were grinding regionally. Even Nelly was hustling for a full year and a half before his first single took off. Snow literally just flew in....

Let's get off Snow for a minute, what about Ini Kamoze? Tag Team?

Informer was classified a Hip-Hop/R&B/Pop song dependant on region. Yes, Snow doesn't "rap", but there wasn't a mainstream category for him in many regions to classify him "reggae" so that's where they slid him in. They've been doing that type of thing for years.

And I dunno how out of that single going platinum the track didn't get play in NY... it's featuring and produced by MC Shan... I'm pretty sure that held some weight in sales in that region.

Informer was not in rotation on the radio in NYC. Had it not been for The Box( the video request channel) I would have never heard it. There's tons of songs that were hits nationally that wasn't in rotation in NYC. Hammer, Vanilla Ice, Paperboy, Skeelo, Tone Loc, Young MC, etc were not in heavy rotation in the mecca of Hip Hop.
