No one has been clamoring for music from MTV for decades and you can find historical information about artists other places.

If the M in MTV was relevant in todays world (by actual consumer standards) the channel would look different.

Times change :manny:

People saying basicslly "who cares about that old shyt" are missing the point entirely.

This isn't about when was the last time you went on MTV.com, it's about allowing giant media corporations to completely wipe out ages of valuable work and history from us overnight. Media preservation--certainly journalism of ANY kind--is important to society.

What’s valuable about letting us know the smashing pumpkins new album is coming out January 16th 1994 in 2024? Nothing, I repeat, absolutely nothing, was in those mtv archives that’s not readily available elsewhere from a music perspective

The old versions of MTV, BET, and, to a lesser extent even VH-1 were really catered to Gen
X and kinda the first version of "one- use disposable media". And since we kept leaping on to what's next and what's "Hot" the big companies devalued nostalgia and would rather just go forward and further away from the earlier audience. To the point to where those channels forgot what their purpose was in the 1st place. MTV stood for Music Television and that's what they did and they did it well. Now they just run teenage moms and other non music related shyt back over and over. They've been irrelevant for over 20+ years because of it too.
