He isnt lying with the "If I didn’t get the job done right the first time, I would have come back around and got it done right the second time. I haven’t had to go to number three and number four but some fighters have to." portion at all (since I know the rest is gonna be dismissed as "styles makes fights" and triangle theory). He's only fought 2 rematches and won both of them by much clearer decisions than he did in the 1st fight:obama:

Mayweather: I Had To Face Marquez Once, Not 4 Times
Posted by: Boxing Clever on 3/12/2015

Floyd Mayweather has declared his bout with Manny Pacquiao on May 2 as "the biggest fight in boxing history". Mayweather and Pacquiao went head to head for the first and only time prior to their mouthwatering Las Vegas super-fight at a press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

And, with the contest clearly so easy to sell to an expectant worldwide audience there will be no pre-fight press tour - with the fighters not expected to meet again until the usual fight week preparations.

Mayweather, who will take a proud 47-fight unbeaten record into the ring, said - "May 2 is when the world stops - it's Mayweather v Pacquiao, it's the biggest fight in boxing history. This is a fight that the world can't miss. I'm in the gym working and dedicating myself to the sport because I have never wanted to win a fight so bad in my life. May 2 is the fight of the century. It's all about the best fighting the best and Pacquiao is one of the best fighters of this era."
Some believe Mayweather has picked the right time to face Pacquiao after appearing reluctant in recent years primarily over drug-testing procedures.

The Filipino's aura of invincibility was shattered when he was smashed to a sixth round knockout defeat by Juan Manuel Marquez in December 2012, although he has since rebounded with three straight wins.

“I look at this fight as just another fight. I’ve faced Marquez before, he’s faced Marquez four times. If I didn’t get the job done right the first time, I would have come back around and got it done right the second time. I haven’t had to go to number three and number four but some fighters have to. Pacquiao is a solid competitor, he’s tough and ambitious. But one thing I do know – in any sport, if you’ve lost before then losing is in your mind," Mayweather stated on the red carpet.

I've always thought Floyd views this fight like this. They've created someone to place on my level to basically spite me, who I view is not on my level whatsoever. They feel confident that they've goaded me into this and sometimes, you get more than you ask for. Will that happen. No clue, but I've always thought that is how he's thought of Pacquaio. Dismissive of him belonging on the same plateau as him.

i really believe floyd thinks (whether we agree or not doesn't matter) that :a. pacquaio rode his coattails to mainstream popularity b. pacquaio is overrated and not on his level c: someone the media created as the anti floyd mayweather to discredit him.

if he brings all that into that may 2nd, pacquaio going to sleeep again:wow:

Lotta parallels between Floyd vs Manny and Fed vs Nadal.

I think Fed and Floyd represent the science side of Tennis and Boxing. They have the technique, the adaptation, strategy, you know... the science.
Then all a sudden, you have these physical monsters that come outta nowhere and in Nadal and Manny. Their technique and offense come at you like a hurricane. Its loud, its not as pretty, but it sure as hell works for them. And its nonstop. AND fans show them love for it! I could kinda see if Floyd and Fed feel some kinda way.

That is a great analogy. The thing that hurts Roger though is how can you be considered the best ever when you aren't the best in your era. Not to mention, Rafa is amazing on clay. Both (Floyd and Roger) are known to have the best (right hand, forehand). That being said, there is a truism that works in all sports. Great defense beats great offense. That is why Nadal continues to get the best of Roger and why I'm fairly confident of the result in May.

A left handed volume puncher, with just as fast or even faster hand speed, more power, that throws in 2-3-4 punch combinations from weird angles, and can close the distance quickly due to his fast foot speed, is NOT an orthodox counter puncher's dream breh:heh:

In general, a counter puncher's weakness is a volume puncher/swarmer/pressure fighter.

I can agree with you to an extent but with May & Pac you have one guy with a distinct height & reach advantage who's a master boxer/counter puncher.

But, Floyd is the one who will be looking different in the ring on May 2nd....not Pacquiao. What i mean is, everything I said about Manny is the exact reason you will not see Floyd in the Shoulder Roll defense as much as normal. It doesnt work against left handed fighters and adding to the fact he's a fast handed, fast of foot, power volume puncher is something that Floyd will have to adjust too.

Floyd's style, broken down to generics:whoa:, will be similar to JMM as a right handed counter puncher (but with a high guard defense) while Floyd has never faced a left handed swarmer who punches from awkward angles and darts around the ring like he's on coke:yeshrug:

Manny's style is something Floyd has never faced, which is why when he beats Manny, it's gonna be that much more validation for the Floyd contingent on here:obama:

More than Manny swarming, I think people forget Manny sorta fights off rhythm which might make it hard for Floyd to be AS precise to counter. We also gotta see how effective Manny is darting out because every guy Floyd's faced in the last 5-6 years stays right in front of him with no movement. Win or lose, Floyd's gonna WORK May 2nd. You ain't beating Manny being a passive / defensive counter puncher (something Marquez or Morales weren't)
.

Floyd's gonna catch him on the way in. Pac lunges & JMM & Terrible were the only fighters to really make him pay for that & his bad footwork.
