Yay!!! Let's bring mandatory business to the health insurance corporations that put greed above compassion!!!
Idiots. You should be demanding real socialized medicine and a single payer system and you are cheering for forcing people to make these greedy companies even more powerful. Give them MORE lobbying money.
Clowns.
Calm your ass down.
Any progressive would rather have a single-payer system or at least a public option and anybody paying attention to politics knows that the ACA is basically the same plan as Dole in 96, Gingrich in 94, and a little to the right of Nixon in 72. And we know Obama bytched up and negotiated away the public option behind the scenes while pretending to support it in public. The jubilation you see in this thread is more to do with laughing at the L the Repubs took today (even though it used to be their plan).
But at the end of the day, it would be absurd to actually want the ACA to be ruled unconstitutional because it and all the previous Republican individual mandate proposals are better than the current system. Hopefully we can get a single payer system one day, but I'm not going to root against a plan that adds 30 million people to the insured rolls, bars insurance companies from denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions, allows people to stay on their parents coverage until they're 26, and creates state exchanges to bring down costs.
Regarding the the evil insurance companies that deny people coverage, they do that to cut costs because we have an absurd system of for-profit healthcare. But the insurance companies are not the banks. Their profit margins are relatively modest, like 6%. So why would you be upset at a law that makes them act in a less evil way because now they can keep their profit margins without denying coverage due to all the millions of new people paying into it?
