I've been procrastinating renewing mine, it expired last year. Guess I'm another closed-minded American :smugbiden:

Big blue is right. That is a feature of the EU. that's why all those poor eastern european countries want in to the Eu, so their people can go (and stay) in the UK France and Germany, like with Romania and the gypsies.

Americans value "stuff" over travel. A lot of people in the US want the biggest house, car, tv, etc, that they can get. This leaves little expendable income for international vacations. Europeans would rather get a cozy little home and small, fuel efficient car and spend the extra cash on travel.

you act like all europeans are on some middle/upper class, soak up the culture trip, this is not true.

i come from the working class, and there you "travel" for better weather, a nice beach, bingedrinking, and sluts.

that being said, traveling is nice - but it costs a lot

If you've ever been to Europe, you know why they travel to other countries.

1.) Weather is drab as fukk unless you're along the Mediterranean. I would travel out of England too. I am going to take an educated guess and hypothesize that Germans and Britains are the major travelers of Europe.

2.) Other countries are really close and you can travel by train too. Comparatively, a trip from London to France is about 5-6 hours in a car. 5 to 6 hours will only get me out of Texas in 2 directions. If I went west it would take me 10+ hours to get out of Texas. If I went south it would take me 10 hours to get to Mexico.

3.) Bio diversity within most European nations is poor compared to the U.S. which has every environment outside of the old hardbottom tropical rainforest. Its not a surprise to run into Englishmen at places like Yellowstone, Glacier, Grand Canyon or Yosemite because hell, you don't have that kind of scenery in your country. I think this is the biggest factor for many, and pretty much everyone I've ever talked to wants to eventually see Europe, Asia and South America, but they also want to see places like Big Bend in Texas, the Grand Canyon, the Colorado 14s, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, Denali, Hawaii, Yosemite, the Everglades, Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Sonoma Wine Country, The Cascades, Moab. Those are just some of the natural wonders in the US alone, and doesn't even include cities like Miami, Chicago, New York, LA, or destinations like Disney World all in one country. I think once people who haven't been to the Western US get just a whiff of the nature out there, they want to see it all because the scenery is just crazy. So I find the idea that Americans don't travel or spend money on it as an absurd, Euro-centric notion. There's a lifetime of things to see in the US.

4.) I don't buy the Americans are too poor to travel either. A lot of Americans are just insular. My little sister is like this. We can't even get her to go to Houston with us. She just wants to stay in her little hood where things are familiar.

I just wanted to point out that there are more continents than North America and Europe, and more countries than America and England. Europe isn't your only choice if you want to travel out of America. Try Thailand, cheap hotels, food and travel, comparatively.

Americans must be shocked at the prices when they hit a European city.

I'm going Orlando in September and I'm at the stage where I think a 10 dollar long drink in disney is reasonable and a 6 dollar beer is cheap, Americans must get to amsterdam/Paris/Barcelona and see a 8 to 10 euro beer like :sadcam:, london isn't so bad (if you're smart), but I found the prices in Paris kinda ridiculous, 18 euros for a glass of wine and a pint in a normal pub, really?

Fair enough, I was in the tourist rip off zone, but I e never even seen a pub in soho with that kinda mark up, maybe an exclusive club, but not a shythole pub.
