What’s not being said is that the type of jobs that sustained the black middle class in California (defense, manufacturing) left in the 80s and 90s and was replaced by the service industry and government jobs

Defense and manufacturing is the magnet that brought my grandparents from the South and Midwest respectively back in the 50s and 60s.

If you aren’t in certain industries in California, it’s really no point in living there.
