If you lock me in a room without anything I can cope with my problems. A person dependent on drugs or drinks would get the shakes. That's the difference.

Well duh. Drugs are a physical dependence. Religion is a dependence of the mind. Locking you in a room wouldn't be depriving you of your crutch. If you found out god didn't exist I bet it would impact you way worse than an alcoholic deprived of alcohol. People have killed themselves and others over crises of faith.

imo the people with the strongest minds are atheists. They don't believe they are being guided and watched over like you do. You have been given your moral code by an all powerful being. All you have to do is follow it. You live your life knowing that when it is over you will be taken away to live in paradise with all your friends and family. They don't have that luxury. Hence the way they live their lives is entirely their own choosing.

When a athlete wins a championship and thanks his weedman or the bartender then I would consider going further in the religion vs drugs debate. Until then, I would look worse than the idiots that originally made the comparison if I further indulge in dialogue that would even suggest that drugs are comparable to religion. It's foolish and idiotic. If drugs are your "higher power" you turn to when things are beyond your control then you are 1 sad mofo.

I can't even count how many classic songs were created under the influence of drugs.

Your talking about something that is impossible tho. If believing in god is what causes me to be a better person to myself and others and there's no way possible of finding out if god doesn't exist while im alive then your point is senseless.

It is possible because it does happen. Everyone has a breaking point, like what happens in the story of Job. Or what happens to religious types on a frequent basis once they lose their faith.

If you're only a good person because of your belief in god, then yes, that is a weakness. You want to know what true strength is? An atheist who does good things for others. They don't need god to convince them to be a better person.

I get what OP is saying.I dont handle situations by doing neither.Yes prayer is the key but If a person wants to drink or smoke thats them,I aint gonna judge .They will deal with whatever it is they have to deal with healthwise,mentally etc.As long as they dont do smoke or drink in my crib.
