Traveling internationally is cool if you can afford it but domestic US travel also has a lot to offer. America is pretty diverse landscape wise and culture wise.
Salt Lake City and New Orleans might as well be different countries culture wise for instance.
The same with Denver and Honolulu

I’ve been to all these places, can’t disagree.
Now affordability, most Americans I know go to either Miami or Vegas once a year of not multiple times.
I’ve been to several countries for significantly less than what it costs to be in those cities. International travel is not expensive in general. Especially when everything is dirt cheap in a lot of these countries.
My experience in Italy.
Flight: $425
2 bedroom Airbnb: $90 x night
Food: we had 6 corses, bottle of wine, for 4 people for 90 euros and you to tip have to tip.
I just booked Portugal at a similar price point. I’ll do two trans Atlantic trips for what people be dropping on a weekend in Miami, EASY

Yeah international travel laws were probably a bit looser back then but it been a requirement to have a passport when leaving the US since 1941

Until the late 90s, with the advent of budget airlines and the internet. Traveling internationally was considered an upper middle class luxury. Tickets if you adjusted for inflation could cost up to 2000 dollars plus accommodations overseas, basically you needed a travel agent to sort out all the details for you. The other thing was you didn't need passports to go to NA countries or most of the territories until pretty recently.
It took a while for travel to open up fully to the public. To keep it a buck a ton of west coast people hadn't even been to the south nor east coast let alone overseas, and vise versa. Then the internet blew up fully to a higher level and you could finally buy airline tickets online. Cheap airlines came about like Southwest, Air Tran, etc., the majors airlines started having deals, an explosion in newer and better hotels, Then it went a step further and you got to see articles, pictures, Wikipedia, Instragram, Google, etc. You got to actually see and learn about foreign places. Then acquire a passports and literally go these places.
There was a huge explosion in travel and simply knowing about the world in general in the late 90's and 2000's.

you satisfied staying in 1 country, I’m not. I enjoy the US from coast to coast, islands and territories. I don’t have to pick from domestic or international travel. I’m going to do both until i physically can not get on a plane. I’ll enjoy my travels, you enjoy yours
