Got to start making folks take accountability.
But you aren't. Its literally nothing but talk and no action.
How are you going to hold parents accountable. Make them pay a fine for bad grades. take away custody of their kkids. What actual action are you suggesting will be done to accomplish this?

I gave you a good example. Schools should enforce a zero tolerance policy.

Get the Principals, teachers, parents, and students together and set expectations there from day 1 so everyone understands and is on the same page. Make them sign forms. If a student is acting up, didn't do their homework, on their cellphone, they should be sent home. Call the parent, make them take off work, make them lose money, because their kid is acting up.

Of course this will require good teachers, not the soft teachers who try to fight students.

Things are never as simple as its the "parents" or "culture"

only 3 percent of black students getting above 1200 is ridiculous.
When I was in school, the highest SAT score in my class was in the 1200s. We went to a poor black high school.

Most of the top 20-30 people from my graduating class are all professionals. Multiple doctors, lawyers, health system directors, Registered nurses, computer programmers, IT consultants, etc.

Most them barely broke 1100… if they even did. We also didn’t have any real SAT prep at our school either.

While it would be great if we scored better on the SAT, collectively… it doesn’t always tell the whole story.

Most school districts already have most of this in place.

The SAT is not a test of knowledge or intelligence. It doesn’t even give a good measure of future success.

The SAT is a test at how good you can take the SAT and that’s it.

It only exists to weed out opportunity for less privileged people.

Holdup forreal?

My son applied to Morehouse and has over 1200. Does this program still exist? :lupe:
Your son is basically guaranteed to get into Morehouse if he has over a 1200. The acceptance rate is 60% and most of those kids don't have a 1200
I doubt this is the same program they had when I was in HS but they do have this on their website now: Oprah Winfrey Scholars | Morehouse College

I agree but I’m not going to discount it that much. Cognitive reasoning and logic is a big part of doing well. Both of which can be trained through practice.

Nobody cares about your SAT score once you move on campus or start taking classes

It is a measure of preparation and reasoning skills, which does make a difference at top universities and more challenging majors. I would say our low SAT scores is related to why there are less black people in STEM in general. Almost any decent high school senior should be able to get a 1200 on the SATs with a honest effort.

SAT scores still matter for good univerisities, it's not the only thing that matters but it definitely counts a lot.

Yes, cognitive reasoning should get you somewhere, but without proper SAT training you are at a severe disadvantage to those that do get prep.

I got 1160 when I took it back in high school, probably could have done better with proper prep though :francis:

This had been covered before over and over. Most Asian immigrants applying to US colleges are from affluent backgrounds. When you adjust for income they don't perform better than anybody else. You think the fry cook at Bobos is doing calculus on his breaks?

I went to college with Asians same as Ive worked physical labor with Mexicans. Both groups figured out the PR game.

I've seen Asian kids hitting the books in the back at my local Chinese spot before.

This topic is perplexing to me. Yes there's an income requirement for sure, but you can't tell me there isn't a culture element as well that helps Asians on the poorer end of the spectrum. I dunno man
