It's hard to argue against raising the minimum wage because it's impossible to know what the market can absorb. . . Because the government fixes the price. For all we know, if government wasn't in the way the "minimum wage" would be $20/hr. The point is free people negotiating directly with employers, whether via collective bargaining or as individuals would ALWAYS do a better job at securing their fair wage.

So with all that said, how would anyone know if raising the minimum wage would hurt the economy?

These Capitalists just threw out 80% of Adam Smith was saying to the gutter. :deadmanny::deadmanny::deadmanny:

What improves the circumstances of the greater part can never be regarded as an inconveniency to the whole. No society can surely be flourishing and happy, of which the far greater part of the members are poor and miserable.

Our friend here is espousing catch phrases disguised as facts.

The existence of a business called "a non-profit" has eluded him perhaps. Profitability in a perfect society should be at least partially linked to risk in a given venture, in order to spur competitive growth and innovation. The problem with applying any of these ideas to an argument about wages and minimum wages is that employee pay is so distanced from the laws of economics and the reality of worker productivity that the wages paid by these corporations is simply the lowest wage allowed and has no structural basis.

This explains why executive pay is so exorbitantly high even on corporations that not only didn't make any profit, but they ended up collapsing due to their malfeasance. There is clearly a disconnect between economics and the current wage situation in the world and the data only points this out.

It has nothing to do with the government, you're right. It does have everything to do with the labor force demanding their fair share. They have been demanding for some time. Some times the labor petitions their government for help in this matter, just like corporations and business they do (and they have much more pull). It's not an internal matter at all. It's a social matter.

Fam. We're talking about $15 per hour.

For entry level, unskilled, basic work that ANYONE off the street can get.

FIFTEEN DOLLARS.

Why?

I don't see it.

$10? Sure.

$11 if you're lucky.

So if I pull the stats on non-profits you're going to deflect in which way? Just tell me now.
Who the fukk cares about non-profits?????????????????????????????????? Non profits are hobbies in the real world.

It's not for the people at the top to decide, it's up for the labor force to decide. The people at the top have a habit of giving million dollars bonuses to each other for driving their companies into the ground.

Lets not muddy the term the "labor force" with unskilled labor.

SOME PEOPLE don't have as much pull as they think they do.

Lets get that clear.

I'm not against raising the minimum wage...I'm against raising it to 2x what it currently is.

Non-profits? nikka get the fukk outta here.

Non profits don't DO anything. and they damn sure dont create much of anything.

Non-profits amount to HOBBIES and recreational ventures.

Thats an internal dispute, not government.

...and did you just confuse revenue with profit? :what:

You're not presenting a real argument, you're just trying to make it absurd by saying 15 dollars over and over again. Obviously we don't think its absurd so that route is foolish.

As for the bolded, that's more non-sense. Every hospital in Canada is a private non profit corporation and every Canadian trusts them with their lives, that seems like a little bit more than a hobby to me. There are so many alternatives to the corporate structure you keep caping for yet you have not presented any evidence to support it other than your own opinion and platitudes.

Explain to us why 15 dollars is a bad idea outside of your own opinion and draw up some statistics for us to paint the picture. Stop worrying about who cares about this or who cares about that, we're grown.

Edit : I clearly did not confuse revenue and profit ... you need to read what I said slowly.

You DID NOT answer this.

Thats the point.

1. What is a living wage TO YOU? (not some shyt relying on European standards)

2. Why should that be the same as the minimum wage?

3. Why should the minimum wage be raised to $15 per hour?

hold on in one sec

You SHOULD think its absurd.

I can't find a single good reason why an entry level person in ANY job should make $15 per hour.

Healthcare in Canada is socialised, and most government entities ARE non-profit.

This is a ridiculous claim :snoop:

We're talking about private enterprise here. :beli:

Minimum wage was never intended to provide a "living wage"

I agree with increases, but not $15...nearly DOUBLE the amount it currently is.

Edit : I clearly did not confuse revenue and profit ... you need to read what I said slowly.

You clearly did if you assume that just because a business makes lower profit in one year that C-level folks won't get paid as much or more.

Time for some critical reading. I just told you that the hospitals in Canada are private non profit corporations. That means they are a private enterprise. They receive their money from the government but that doesn't make them a public entity. They are about as public as Lockheed or Boeing who receive almost all their money from the government.

The minimum wage was never intended to provide a living wage but the constitution was never intended to give blacks rights so that's a fallacious argument. It doesn't matter if it's double, that in and of itself doesn't make it bad. Something doesn't become bad somehow if you just double it (except posts).

I didn't assume that at all, I'm going to ask you to read what I said again.
