This thread is jokes, because posters who fancy themselves as quantitatively focused business and economic scholars have reacted to hard data that confronts their beliefs with emotional strawmans like: "Well why not just raise the minimum wage to 1 million dollars an hour while you're at it!", and qualitative mumbo jumbo about worker motivation or whatever. Now you're all about dem externalities huh? Who dat dere????
I've seen no hard evidence that raising the federal min wage will have no ill effect, in fact all I have seen is the CBO report speculating that a raise to the federal min wage will throw half a million working Americans in the bushes.
This idea that raising the min wage in affluent areas like San Jose, San Fran, and Seattle is evidence of how a min wage raise will affect Waldron Arkansas and other small rural communities is silly, and its the proponents of this thinking that are jokes.

If there is hard evidence that $15 federal min wage will have no adverse effects feel free to share it. i'm more than open to this hard data.

What it comes down to in my opinion is people who are playing the game, and seem to be winning...or BELIEVE themselves to be in a winning position (no hate to ANYBODY in here doing well, many of you know i'm in professional school at a pretty good university for a healthcare field myself), don't want the rules of the game to be changed to give those that are at the bottom a lifeline. You can't rig the game (we can sit here for days and talk about how the vast majority of minorities, and poor from all backgrounds have absolute long shots to recover form the situation they are born into) and then not want a fairer system to be put into place.
Separate issue IMHO, but common sense and a massive amount of empirical evidence show that raising the minimum wage is not an effective solution to poverty or unemployment.

Tabernacle....

And as addendum, those who arent winning in life adopt caustic beliefs aimed at injuring their cohorts and peers more than anything. They become political kamikazes of sorts who make arguments not out of sound reason, but out of personal frustration...and perhaps the slim hope they will become rich and powerful themselves, and therefore can tangibly injure the masses as opposed to the toothless rhetorical variety.

Yo whoever the fukk said it's the governments job to take money from corporations and I've it back to the people..... :dahell:

It's called corporate taxes brehbreh

if the minimum wage is that high, all other wages will have to rise too. What the job creators will say is that it will cause inflation and price increases. The federal government has tools for inflation, and there are price increases that naturally happen anyway. The goal is to take the money out of the corporation and return it back to the people who work for it. Theres nothing more depressing than the folks who work at whole foods not being able to purchase the items in whole foods.

Actually, the FEDS no longer have any control over inflation since they have lowered the interest rates close to 0 thus not being able to adjust for inflation.

Minimum wage is a joke simply because many people making it aren't full time anyway. I remember working retail as a teen fresh outta high school we could barely get 20 hours a week. they used to ride our asses for those measly checks. what you know about getting sub $250 checks every 2 weeks. you couldn't even pay rent at a decent place. my rent here is dirt cheap at $435 a month but if i made minimum wage damn near half my monthly income would just go to paying rent and that's assuming i can get 40 hours a week.
