I feel you, but I'm moving away from being stuck on first rounders outside of elite linemen and the occasional can't miss QB. Having a good 2nd-4th round draft >>> 1st round....but maybe I feel this way because baalke been shyt in the first and Seattle balling out with 6th round picks :francis:
I mean...usually you want a solid pick in first round; I agree with you about mid-rounds actually, because thats where you win drafts. but in first round, usually you want a solid pick who can play right away and be good. doesnt have to be amazing, just not a bust. especially on a rebuilding team. top 10 is when you can think of picking up a superstar.

problem with teams who have shytty drafts is that the teams are shytty and they want a miracle and they get a player who is likely to bust simply he has a real high potential, when instead they should be getting exactly the opposite- maybe someone not spectacular, but someone who can step in and be a solid player for years.

The Oakland Raiders are the prototype right now. Their past 2 drafts had Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper in the top 5, both are blue chip, franchise cornerstones players. Got their franchise QB in the 2nd, and crucially surrounded him with a great OL (got Gabe Jackson in the 3rd) and good role players (UDFA Seth Roberts). They weren't afraid to spend in FA either (made Rodney Hudson the highest paid C in the league, brought in Crabtree, brought in Donald Penn). They got lucky with Latavius Murray as a 6th rounder, but they're building their team the right way. If they have a good draft this year and bring in a few more defensive pieces (Mario Edwards Jr was a great pick in the 2nd round last year), they'll be in the playoffs next year. The rebuild took a few years, but they were patient and drafted very well.

raiders got two more wins than us :manny: defense has been their issue every year since they went to the superbowl and their defense is still ass. until their D is fixed they will never amount to anything

that was a great draft by them, but its only a proof defense is still key (word to KC). if you have a great defense, you will contend even with a subpar offense. (you could run the ball, not turn it over, control the clock, tire out the opposing defense, and play field position.
when you have a great offense and shytty defense all pressure is on offense). you wont contend vice-versa.

no, thats far from the biggest need

Far? What's the laundry list of things this team needs?

D-line? Good young talent there.

Safeties? They are sufficient and could be above average.

Corners? That's a need yea but not a top concern

As far as the o-line they will be much better with Davis back and Kilgore healthy a long with the young #77, of course they need to draft OL but the only reason it was as bad as it was this season was because of the coaching staff

Running back-we good

They should take a WR in the 1st

Before this season, the Raiders didn't have a 1000 yard rusher since 2010 or a 1000 yard receiver since 2005. Their defense has been ass too, but their offense was garbage. They're a balanced team now, but their current relative success is more predicated on their offense improving than their D improving. It all depends on how you choose to build. Niners and the Seahawks have been doing it through defense, but the Pack D is usually suspect and their offense carries them. Same with Manning's Broncos, Luck's Colts, and Brees' Saints. Great D and subpar O will contend, but I think the same vice-versa. *Trent Dilfer voice* Ultimately you just have to put up more points than the other team. :yeshrug:

packers only trip to sb under rodgers was when their D was #1
saints aint been shyt the last few years despite being in weak division and having very good offenses, not making the offs like 3 out of 4 times or something like that
broncos had a top 5 d 2 of last 4 years
colts only been to offs because of how shytty their division has been

great defense wins championships
great offense wins...um I dont know, it gives qb fappers something to do ? :manny:

I would rather a CB than a WR, but I wouldn't mind a WR if the talent is there.

I would rank positional priorities as such:

1. CB
2. OL (Even if AD comes back, Boone is most likely gone and we'll need 2 Guards)
3. WR
4. DL
5. LB
6. QB
7. S
9. TE
10. HB

secondary been a huge concern for years, even in 2011 when they were possibly the strongest in ages, it was still the weakest link
oline is so trash and boone is gone. we have to get a guard and getting another good center wouldnt be bad since kilgore is merely average. plus who knows about anthony davis, he might talk the talk but watch him not unretire after the draft :heh: I dont trust a single thing that man says.

2nd ILB is a huge concern

TE is a giant hole. vance has a hole for hands and celek is merely average/below average and not a great blocker.

the WR group is passable for most part. when ball is coming their way they make plays. at this point they arent amazing but really, they dont have to be in order for the offense to play solid

:heh: you hate QBs so much breh.

2014: 13th ranked D, 11th ranked O (Pats)
2013: 1st ranked D, 18th ranked O (Seahawks)
2012: 17th ranked D, 16th ranked O (Ravens)
2011: 27th ranked D, 8th ranked O (Giants)
2010: 1st ranked D, 9th ranked O (Packers)

So rounding up, over the past 5 years SB Champ Defenses are averaging 12th in the league, and SB Champ offenses are averaging 12th in the league. :francis:

I think the way the game is going it's harder to have a great D than a great O, so I prefer building for a great D, but you can get it done with a great O and mediocre D. Again, the game is about scoring more points than your opponent. You can do it one of two ways; Put up hella points, or limit the amount of points the other team puts up.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
the biggest need of this team is a legit true #1 WR.
been saying this for 4 years... and every year we bring in 8 receivers... and every year we are shytty at passing while trying to be pass first.... then in the offseason we get another 8 receivers.....................

i wouldn't say it's first after losing half the team... but it's still up there

I don't hate qbs, I hate the media and common folks obsession with what is simply another position out there.

That Giants D woke up in offs and whooped everyone's ass btw. That ranking doesn't so them any justice. They didn't allow the Falcons to score, then allowed two tds each to us and Packers, and then the Pats. That defense legit won them the bowl, just like in 2007.

Yup. When I said #1 need I meant from a draft stand point, should take the best receiver available since I feel like the other maybe more important need can be addressed in the other rounds
