Baalke won't ever overpay imo, I have no problems with that tbh :manny: I do have a problem with his shytty drafts lately tho :francis: drafts is how you build a team. You're never building a team off market value. You build it off young cheap good players.

Bortakamus is below average in all 3 phases of building a team. Trade, draft, free agency. There's still time for him to acquire some good players but I don't expect him to be any different than he was in the past. He won't overpay so we not getting any impact free agents. So maybe he'll get guys in the draft? But he sucks at that too so...maybe we should let Chip work the phones. :troll:

below average in trades tho ? thats a flat out lie breh, and you know it
we got Quan for a 6th rounder, and we got 34th and 56th overall picks for Alex Smith with zero leverage and him becoming a FA...just off those two trades in the same offseason, he cant be below average

and honestly, in FA, I dont see how you can call him below average either....he was able to consistently find cheap players who overperformed on our team, while having a very hard cap

los, whitner, dorsey, bethea had some of the finest years of their careers with us, and all were had for peanuts in FA initially. and those who left, never got better after leaving us.
ted ginn was a cheap and good signing just off his return skills

there isnt a single big bad contract I can remember. shareece wright and the end of los contract and kaeps deal is about as bad as it can get, which is pretty damn near excellent in NFL realities.

In terms of acquiring talent. He's good at acquiring picks that he squanders.

cheap =/= good.

Baalke has made some low risk signings that paid off. But man he has not been good. He has royally fukked up in the higher rounds which is where you absolutely have to hit.

all those guys I've mentioned plus Goodwin been good. It's a miracle he managed to get them cheap because we basically couldn't afford anyone not cheap with our salary cap after 2011. We were cap strapped up until this year basically

Again, we are talking about FAs here, don't change the subject to draft (which is another story). Seems like your dislike for baalke is clouding your objective judgement (not the first time either).

I think Baalke may be good at maintaining, but not building. The fact that so many of those FA players had their best years with us then dropped off is proof of good coaching more than anything else, no? Baalke gets credit for identifying FA players that fit well in Harbaugh's scheme, but he's never been a great builder (draft). I'll give him a plus for trades because of those ones @yseJ mentioned, but there were a plethora of high end players he drafted that should have made our transition outta the Harbaugh era smoother. But yeah, he doesn't have any terrible big signings on his record, but then again he didn't need to with the team he inherited. Never built something from scratch like McKenzie is doing with the Raiders. Now is the time to see if he can. Can't be whiffing on fukking AJ Jenkins and Marcus Martins and Tank Carradines. Need Derek Carrs and Gabe Jacksons and Khalil Macks and Amari Coopers. Tendering Jordan Devey should be a fireable offense tbh.
