well, jay-z was the man. of course people are gonna want to be like him. but I cant think of one original thing that jay-z ever brought to the table. so the idea of someone "doing their best jay-z rendition" is really just a nice line. nothing more. in fact, some of the rappers that get brushed off as jay-z followers, in reality, are some of the guys that jay-z bit.

back to the clipse, it does matter whether or not the song is popular for the lyrics. that's the reason why you listed it in the 1st place!!! this thread is about 2000s spitters. just admit that you gave a bad example and move on to the next side-argument.
there were beats that overshadowed rappers in the '90s too.
