And as far as the question in OP. 90s is better. Prime Jay,Nas,Pun,Eminem,Redman,Ghostface,Kurupt,Dre 3k,Bun B etc...take shyts on all them Smack DVD ass rappers from the early 2000s.

Eminem is more of a 2000s guy.

bun b isn't a guy to write home about lyrically. and even if he was, he was better with the pen in the 2000s.

ghostface on your frontline?

andre 3000 would get raped.

it goes way deeper than just biting young chris flow breh. and since when is over-the-top money/fly shyt a credit to jay?:wtf:

that's a TERRIBLE example breh. GRINDIN is your prime example? that song wasn't even popular for the lyrics. it was about the beat and the way they rode it. in fact, a lot of people didn't even look at the clipse as being nice like that until people heard more of their tracks. and even then, they weren't seen as top spitters.

and the 2000s was more than just punchline raps. just about all those guys are more than one-trick ponies. they could do all the '90s chit too, including the concepts & story-telling that you listed.

I am not going to sit and get into an argument with you on if Jay-z was influential or not. There are plenty of rappers who have talked about it, there was many examples of people trying to be like Jay-z. You cannot go back and change history or take words away from say Eminem who named Jay-z one of the greatest and an influence.

It doesn't matter if the song is popular for the lyrics and I'll go as far to say that 2000s moving on is when beats started to overshadow most MCs, which leads me to believe the rappers didn't get 'better' At least I wasn't afraid to name names and give direct examples.....you are hiding your hand asking people to come up with better examples when you gave 0 yourself?

2000s was very heavy punch line raps, battle raps. You are siting there referencing NYC MIXTAPE RAPPERS in your own post here :snoop:

the early-mid '00s mixtape scene alone. just off-top.

That scene was basically consisted of a bunch of Fabolous,Jadakiss clones,as well as weak rehashes of other nikkas that came out in the 90's:pachaha:....if we talking pure volume maybe, but you basically giving 2000s extra credit simply based on the fact it became easier for a larger volume of nikkas to make music,as well as to have they music heard.

@ the bolded. I'm not hiding anything. I'm milking this thread and setting the tone. I didn't even get warmed up yet. this is how you make threads pop.
youre doing that thing that you do again. jumping the gun and showing your ass. and for what? I didn't insult you or anything like that. but when I bust back, I'm gonna be the bad guy. and I could easily hurl some insults at you right now, cuz youre in here looking out-of-place, but I'll keep it hip-hop, for now.

well, jay-z was the man. of course people are gonna want to be like him. but I cant think of one original thing that jay-z ever brought to the table. so the idea of someone "doing their best jay-z rendition" is really just a nice line. nothing more. in fact, some of the rappers that get brushed off as jay-z followers, in reality, are some of the guys that jay-z bit. do you see what I'm saying now? it aint just young chris breh. and chit, the internet labeled young chris as a jay-z biter for years too. I'm not rewriting history and denying that jay influenced rappers but it aint as deep as you think.

back to the clipse, it does matter whether or not the song is popular for the lyrics. that's the reason why you listed it in the 1st place!!! this thread is about 2000s spitters. just admit that you gave a bad example and move on to the next side-argument.

there were beats that overshadowed rappers in the '90s too. PLENTY OF EM. so whats your point? you just gave a bad example for the 2000s. and its not a big deal. its better to just fall back and take your L, rather than dig a bigger hole. this is ALWAYS your problem. and then you get emotional on top of that. I'm not even coming at your neck either. its just real-rap.

:dead: And if that doesn't work, youll just post a bunch of times in a row and maybe try to @ a few brehs...we know, we know.

No one is jumping the gun, in fact, I was trying to add to your thread to keep the debate going but the truth of the matter is, you just like to hear yourself talk. You don't really care to hear people who see it differently than you....

No the reason I listed the Clipse song in the first place is it was a popular song that a lot of people know and listened to. It is also much better than picking some other song that was popular around that same year like say 'Oh Boy' which is a terrible song 'spitting' wise.

LOL @ getting emotional. You just typed a novel. Stop projecting. You are only fooling yourself these days.

you sound jealous.
you say "we know we know" but all I know is I got your puter putin like crazy right now.
lol @ the bolded. youre a weirdo.
and why are you in here taking all these lil shots? do you really want me to break you down in here?

I mean, you come in here listing GRINDIN of all things. I didn't even come at your neck, but I guess your pride still got hurt, so you decided to hurl insults. i'll just leave it at that. youre not ruining my thread with this other side chit nonsense. don't try to weasel your way back in here neither.

have a nice night.:camby:

speaking of jay-z, look at how bold he was to pick fights with those '90s thug poet rappers like prodigy & nas.

but when it came to them 2000s spittas, he always ran behind his crew.

Which is why i chose 1990s.

A lot of 2000s rappers were punchlines rappers who weren't really saying much. Punchlines get burnt out after u hearing them toooooooo much and they were being recycled left and right.

That shyt was amazing to me.

explain to me why Chino Xl was dropping some of the worst punchlines in the history of rap from 2001 to infinite.

Not saying all punchlines rappers were whack but it was tiring. If you go back listen to half of it now it really wasn't that good
