There were plenty of sputters in the 2000s the big issue for me was the production got mad corny

This is most early 2000s generics beats of all time.

Had Beans been out in say 95 he'd have some unreal production to aid his projects rather than hold them back

I am very aware of Jay-z biting the whisper flow off the Young Gunz.....that still doesn't change the fact people were trying to do the Jay-z, over the top money/fly shyt.

These two videos sum up my personal feelings of 90s concepts/story telling vs 2000s battle raps/punch line raps...

vs

Both good songs, I just think that concepts take more effort than battle raps.

shyt used to piss me off when every rapper had to publicize that they aren’t writing anymore like they shyt was gon be better lol. The 2000’s got real stale real quick. Too many “I’m not a rapper I’m a hustler…” rappers, too many punchlines…

Matter of fact @Wacky D the 2000’s were the epitome of formulaic with “superstar producer” features overshadowing whatever the concept of the album was supposed to be. You could hear in the filler songs how the singles killed their budget lol. Too many albums of slapped together songs with no sequencing, stupid ass repetitive Arab horn synths, don’t get me started on those stupid ass uninspired arcade game sound effects, going away from sampling, more “engineered for the club” records, too many rap n b records, endless pre written freestyles in alleyways surrounded by goons.

outside of some really beautiful, timeless gems the 2000’s are one of my least favorite era’s because that was the era where nikkas started act like it was lame to care about their art. The blog era, at the end of the 2000’s helped correct things for a better balance in the 2010’s. I had some of the best times of my life in the 2000’s but a lot of music suffered outside of the bigger artists, collectives, and labels. I understand artists had to do what they had to do to eat but goddamn the lows were really low back then. Some of the worst songs I can think of from the 90’s were just boring, the worst from the 2000’s were flat out bad.

The underground had some gems though, we got the come up of a lot of artists that became monsters by the end of the mid 2000’s.

Repped. I don't really look back fondly on a lot of early 2000s projects for the reasons you listed.
