Any company can make digital presentations of games. They can if they choose create demos online. E3 is an outdated relic from back when gaming magazines were prominent and the very early transition to online game media. Gaming journalists gathered in a single location and were given info to relay to the general public. Now companies release this info on demand when it’s ready. They can’t even keep the announcements secret anymore and before E3 it all leaks anyway.

Yeah nintendo pretty much set the trend by backing out of E3 and doing their digital-only treehouse style events. Once sony pulled out E3 was pretty much on life support

Once Keighley secured a console reveal, I knew E3 was on borrowed time, COVID just sped up the process.

Damn. That's a shame. Nothing will ever match that feeling of E3 week.

AMS/JAMMA gone. TGS diminished. And now, there's no more E3. :mjcry:

It has been dead for years now, they just didn't know, not gonna miss it TBH, the conferences were fun when I was a kid but now I just wanna see 5-6 mins of gameplay to decide if I'm getting the game or not so the youtube presentations work for me :yeshrug:

That's what I mean. I think the game awards are more influential and toxic to gaming culture than E3 is.

It's still in the honeymoon phase right now but people are going to eventually catch on

True but thats how i feel about gamepass, but what can you really do? Gaming audience wants what it wants right now.

The Game Awards aren't a replacement for E3. Companies hold their own events when they want to showcase products. All the console makers have their own digital showings and have even been known to rent out space when needed to debut stuff. For the smaller companies stuff like PAX exist. Gamescom and the Tokyo Game Show also exist.

E3 didn't even know what it wanted to be anymore before the pandemic. It was only natural it faded away.
