this is exactly the answer
2000s were pretty good to amazing

people hated when Kobe and Shaq dominated .... the media used them against eachother to fukk up what they had
almost every team had some wild ass dude who would make the games interesting
teams were diverse and different all around
competitiveness was still a thing and teams hated eachother

Kobe's era was very flashy and ruthless... every team wanted to destroy or embarass the others to a point where the star would have to leave
I think T-Mac is a perfect example of this too... with how amazing T-mac was ... nikkas were at his neck regardless
you know secretly when Brandon Roy went out ... nikkas were like :takedat: ... Shaq was still trying to physically hurt other big men to prove a point.

Nash and Dirk were trying to make a name in Dallas by abusing cats. Spurs were a force and rotating great defensive players around the big 3 they had. Standout teams like Wizards and GS at the time had legs and athleticism to run you out the gym if you didnt put them away. You still had Stephon Marbury etc

low score was cool with me... I wanna see nikkas get hard buckets and work for theirs. No spacing and wide open YMCA jumpshots. It was a good evolution from the 90s era, where they just added more flash.

Big facts breh. Your point about every team having some wild ass dude....there just seemed to be unique personalites back then even with the role players. Teams had different styles and narratives. Teams had real beef. Just a great era

This article is in line with what you guys are saying :mjpls: Guess this was one of the real reasons NBC let the NBA go @-DMP- @FAH1223 @SchoolboyC @10bandz.

Was the NBA too black for NBC?

A September 25, 2001 piece by Variety writer John Dempsey on the upcoming NBA television negotiations featured a stunning series of quotes:

Less shocking, but more bold than Dempsey’s quote was this statement:

Yeah man everyone who was around then remembers the racist bullshyt back then. See the article is from 2001 way before the Malice at the Palace. The hip hop influence on the NBA that started in the 90s and exploded in the early 00s was rubbing a lot of cacs and media fakkits the wrong way. Remember the big deal everyone made when AI dropped the single for his album? It was years of build up that led to Stern implementing the dress code.

Honestly, no reason for any self respecting black person who calls themselves a ball fan would try to act like the NBA had a poor reputation within the community at the time. It was all cac media racist propaganda, while in the streets everyone loved what the NBA was offering plus the And 1 era was peaking and you still had people really interested in college bball.

What happened is exactly what's happening in this thread.. You had one set of fans who hated the way the game was played and the other who had been waiting to see it played like this all their life. And both people are correct

MJ retired and although MJ is NOW seen as an a$$hole, drinking, partying, wilding, cussing MJ... Back then he was safe as Disney.. He played the right way even though he was so ruthless and people inside, knew it. To the public, MJ winning those last 3 was just heaven. Perfect.. Black, white, fan, league, perfect...

Soon as he retired, all the names you listed in this thread started being the forefront. fukk a suit, XXXXXL tees and baggy jeans... Cornrows with designs, baggy uniforms, cussing, flashy, gunning shots, iso ball, tatts, 360 windmills, all of it.. Black people really loved it. Street ball was coming to the NBA. The streets was shining. Everybody had a throwback jersey. And 1 tourneys. Killer crossovers.. Stuart Scott highlights on sportscenter in the am. Jadakiss sneaker videos. Fights, gang members, beating up fans,

White people were in shock. This ain't Mike. We don't want our kids acting like this. What the fukk is this palming shyt? Where's the beautiful game? Oh my god they're beating up fans????

NBA ratings went down, the MASSES were sick of the new NBA. But the masses of america are what? Black america was buying up everything NBA. We wasn't even talking NFL like that. All the rappers was around NBA players. All the NBA players were all up in the videos.. Hell, putting out rap albums. NBA said no no no no no and put in so many damn rules to shut that shyt down, you'd think it was a conspiracy. But they had to protect their brand and so they did.

But nah.. It wasn't one way over the other. It was a mix of all that, that lead to the NBA saying "get these nikkas up out of here"
White people and maga conservatives even after finding out Michael Jordan was an a$$hole, drinking, partying, cussing, wilding out still revered him @The Devil's Advocate

2000s NBA was hated by the boomers who started watching due to Magic/Bird (and eventually Jordan). Now the NBA is hated by people who loved the 2000s.

But 2000s NBA had a lot of legit problems. Players were selfish and inefficient, no ball movement, and generally poor fundamentals. Team USA got embarrassed in 2004 and it pretty much confirmed all of the criticism that people had at the time.

The fact that people are waxing nostalgic about the 2000s shows that literally any era can be saved by revisionist nostalgia. :wow:

It was trashed by cacs. In real time nikkas loved that era....Kobe, AI, Tmac, Vince, Bron, Wade, Melo, etc were all hot topics of discussion every day.

Ratings were down because it was post-MJ and hard to replicate.....also cacs and media ran with the NBA players were thugs bullshyt.
That's basically how I remember it white people didn't like it after the malice and the perception was it was too black.

The irony is a lot of new boomers now love that era of the NBA and hate the new era. Same mindset of only liking what they liked when they were younger and not understanding the world changes and evolves.

That's before we got Stern'd. League still had some sauce to it. But nothing is perfect. Dead ball era and nobody wants to go back to 72-67 finals games. I do miss before everything became homogenized though.

That score :banderas:
