Jodeci way better musically than B2M cuz of Devante. Just can't get into B2M. They can sing they asses off but they're sound is so safe. Same reason I can't get into John Legend.

B2M first album sold around 3m just like Jodeci. Then they re released it after End of the Road and it went on to sell 9M.

Then it followed it up with another smash Babyface single in I'll Make Love to You and there you go. They were gonna dominate the pop charts.

After their second album they were pretty much done as the sound and landscape of R&B music had changed

Thank you and One Sweet Day with Mariah got them over to the top with a lot of cross-over appeal.

Same with John Legend, gifted musicians but boring, I don't believe them when they sing their songs, B2M, Legend, Alicia Keys, the elevator music of R&B...

I believe KC and Jojo when they sing...

These dudes just be saying anything

They got a standing ovation from the industry.

Kind of an aside, notice this video has Japanese subtitles. Boyz 2 men were huge in Japan and still are to some extent. They could release an album tomorrow and it would chart there.

Jodeci definitely was more popular among black folks but Boyz had more cac/cac adjacent appeal.

I don't think these dudes actually listen to much Boyz II Men, and are making assumptions off the "Singles" released.

I'm both a fan of Jodeci and Boyz II Men.

There are even cats in here claiming the B2M "Made Music For White People", which is some silly shyt.

I like Jodeci, but they ARE NOT FUKKIN with Boyz II Men, vocally PERIOD!

K-Ci has a more "Rugged" sound, which I think a lot of Dudes (and some Females) like more.

But Wanya, would SING CIRCLES around K-Ci, he has WAY more Range.

JoJo is the ONLY other singer in Jodeci, and he is "Just OK" as a vocalist.

There are some Jodeci songs I like better than some B2M songs, and VICE-VERSA.

But this "They Sing For White People", Bullshyt is FALSE.

Boyz II Men, started off with the "New Jack Swing" sound, which is BLACK MUSIC.

BOTH Boyz II Men, and Jodeci were musically inspired by Gospel Music,
ESPECIALLY from the group COMMISSIONED.

Breh,

If you were a Black Male Singer, or Aspiring Singer during the 90's and early 2000's.

Boyz II Men, were "THE BLUEPRINT".

Between them and the Group SHAI, if you could sing, that is who you looked up too.

This whole Boyz II Men, "Wasn't popular with Black Folks" narrative, is false.

I do too Jodeci is my 2nd but it's just levels to this I give you one example that clip I just put up.

You see the first chorus when Wayna and Nate was just singing it fukking perfection.

You won't find a K-Ci and Dalvin doing that or a Jo Jo and Dalvin and dare I say even K-Ci and JoJo

Nate>>>>Jo Jotoo much range for the Stevie Wonder knockoff.

That’s the funny thing that hasn’t been brought up. Once they broke away from DeVante Swing, K-Ci and JoJo made the same “white” commercial hits Boy 2 Men made.
Even their “commercial “ songs have way more soul than B2M

Breh,

ON GOD,

I went to a K-Ci and JoJo concert, they we LITERALLY DRUNK.

JoJo SAT DOWN ON THE STAGE MID PERFORMANCE,

:gucci:

talking about some "I'm Drunk", "I Want TO Go Home".

Just off the sheer LACK of PROFESSIONALISM, I give it to BOYZ II MEN!

Boyz 2 Men had broader commercial appeal. Their audience was basically middle class Gen X and Boomers essentially people with money. Not to mention they were able to crossover to white audiences. This is no knock on Jodeci but it was what it was. The other thing is too they were more professional/stable that affects your concerts/booking.

TYRONE GA!
But B2M was bigger in the black community becuz they appealed to a wider age range. Jodeci was more for the hip hop crowd
This.

The second B2M album was a HUGE crossover success for them. shyt went diamond I believe.

The first album was more along the lines of just good black RnB without major crossover appeal. Babyface work on II propelled them to another stratosphere.
