Jodeci had more soul and church/funk production style where B2M had the very bland, pop, but extremely technical sound with their production...

As much as I am a Devante Swing stan and modeled my piano playing style after him, Babyface has him beat, along with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis...

But definitely a heavyweight producer in that era...

B2M just had the formula and didn't stray from it which led them to mass-crossover appeal with strong management in their corner.

Without that, they'd be just another Shai or Silk (the better group anyway)..

Cooleyhighharmony wasn’t bland or pop at all
The uptempo and new Jack songs are better than the ones on Forever My Lady
I would have liked them stay with the Dallas Austin sound a little longer rather than go Babyface/ballad heavy after End of Road blew up

Nate even said on a podcast he wish they would have had more creative control and in house writing on their second album

B2M singing ws so good it had universal appeal You could put those cats in the middle of Nepal and people who never heard about them will be in awe. JODECI, you needed to already love that type of sound.

They should've mixed the two at least.

Nah. This is a generalization.

Stay or I'm Still Waiting is better than anything on that first joint by Boyz II Men...

I agree that they should have done more work with Dallas Austin but they often omit from their interviews they were a$$holes to Dallas and Babyface on the 2nd album which dissolved their relationship with Austin.

Nah. This is a generalization.

Boyz II Men is the safe choice, tame, timid, proper, I suppose for a general audience but they lack any soul to their sound.

Just like the Doo Wop singers of the past, great singers but just corny imho...

I agree on the corny part but being 'corny' does not stop one from being a great musician. B2M were better than JODECI, despite not having that 'edge'.

You put B2M and JODECI in an accapella face off, the reality will be clear.:yeshrug:
B2M will come out on top.

Based on the stats and continued relevancy, B2M still got it..

Who knows where Jodeci would be had it not been for Suge Knight...

devante said babyface was his favorite writer (:12)

along with prince

and andre harrell/al b sure told him/showed him how to produce like babyface (11:42)

but babyface just knew how to connect better with more listeners (which boyz ii men capitalized on starting with end of the road)
it's very telling that k-ci and jojo finally got boyz ii men like commercial success after they (musically) broke away from devante
All My Life (K-Ci & JoJo song)

That’s the funny thing that hasn’t been brought up. Once they broke away from DeVante Swing, K-Ci and JoJo made the same “white” commercial hits Boy 2 Men made.
