If you're in your 30s, chances are Hammer was your first fav rapper

I was 6-8 during his prime

Low key we were into Vanilla Ice too but that ended quick

Before we knew it though, that era faded

Then 92-93 hit, us 7 yr olds became 10 yr olds and the Chronic dropped and it was a WRAP
yep then Hammer tried to ride the west coast hardcore wave with this

but it didn't work

Proper. What you say Hammer? Proper
Rap is not pop, if you call it that then stop…

That's a line in a song, MC Hammer made rap music that ended up crossing over and becoming 'pop'.

His music with the funny clothes, dance moves more closely resembled what rappers were doing at Hip Hop's inception than ATCQ. Tell me I'm lying?

That's not to say it wasn't wack and that 'heads' didn't look at him like a clown, myself included. But again, he was elementary rap.

Nah they played his vids, certain songs in particular.

:yeshrug:

i don’t recall Hammer videos being played on them shows
especially when the core Hip Hop head that watched them shows religiously hated Hammer & Vanilla Ice with a passion

Just bc cacs fuk with yo shyt don’t make it thorough. This nicca wasn’t no gotdamn JB. Mike was on JB level not this chicken eating mf.
When did dancing and “stage shows” set the bar for hip hop? Hell Scoob and Scrap were better dancers than hammer..

You REALLY aren't hip hop if you actually do not know the importance of dance in hip hop culture. The B-Boy came BEFORE the the EMCEE. Hip hop was more prominant in breakin' and dance before the popularity of the rapper. It even hit MAINSTREAM first over the rapper. People were all about making hip crazy dances, even have songs made up after dance steps. Have actual hip hop dance competitions and talents shows. You NON-HIP HOP CULTURED SELF presumed that hip hop is RAP and nothing more. Hip hop CULTURE was all the elements and every element took significance. MC Hammer's show couldn't be matched. And no disrespect for Scoob and Scrap, but the QUESTION was asked why MC Hammer crossed over to be embraced by CACs... and I gave the reason why.

And speaking of Scoob and Scrap.... Oaktown 357 >> Kane's back up dancers. Even MC Hammer's back up dancers got bigger shine.

Boy stop I was there :mjlol:
Hammer wasn’t shyt to the heads. Nicca was a dancing goofy that spit trash lyrics. Niccas ain’t checking for no rappers bc they dance :mjlol:
Cacs embraced him the same way they embrace any other minstrel show with BIG LIGHTS, LOTS OF DANCING NEGROS AND BIG SMILES. Same shyt new artist.
The bboy came before the emcee :mjlol: u work for complex breh?

Lil nikkas in the streaming era don't understand the "Saturday morning cartoon" and how big of a deal it was to be able to sit down as a kid on the weekend with your cereal and watch all the dope cartoons that you couldn't really see during the week...but the nikka had his own Saturday morning cartoon, and that's just one of his feats as a commercial draw.

He was bigly.

I’m constantly trying to explain this shyt to my kids from a patience perspective. These little mufukkas get to binge on whole new seasons and shyt. We waited all week to see fukking thirty minute cartoon episodes. This is the pop tart generation though, they need it now and in a hurry.

Hammer was running shyt back then on the pop rap level and was officially affiliated with street nikkas. Them Oakland boys he ran with was busting heads for Hammer because obviously nikkas thought the dancing and shyt meant fat meat ain’t greasy. Hammer handled shyt by himself too,I heard back in the g.

Hammer danced better than MJ during that period.

Did you really say this bullshyt? :what:

They made Vanilla Ice BECAUSE of Hammer :snoop:

Anyhoo..

Hammer was the sell out that you loved!

The 1st rapper to go Diamond!

1st rapper with a commercial endorsements(the sell out)!

1st rapper to fall off in a major way!

Fukk what you heard.

When Hammer came on stage, you wound up dancing wherever you stood!

Edit:Puffy patterned his whole steez off the West coast :manny:
Sell out but he put all his friends n family on ..

He ate they ate

Endorsement added more commas to the bread truck

Did the smart thing n went bankrupt.. consolidated bills

nikkas claim he was broke

nikka still had his horses n it cost more to raise a horse than a dog n he had them hoes on the track

Broke but financing mtv movies

Hammer didn’t hurt nobody but the outside lookin in

Wasn’t no other rap artist at stadiums 900,000 deep on stage bringin revenue

nikkas hated hammer but loved prime ..
