I just don't understand the brand loyalty...

it isn't just brand loyalty it's unnecessary brand loyalty. In this case what's the advantage of being loyal to a DC or Marvel to the point you root against the other one? You can like both and enjoy both. The required investment to do so is minimal. This isn't like PS4 vs Xbox where you're spending hundreds to invest in both its just some movies and comic books here.
