You also can’t make a criminal case without evidence. Sworn testimony in front of the Senate is evidence.

Do you think having witnesses will change anyone's mind? Also, who would that be?



Most of the people that will watch or pay attention to the impeachment trial are going to be political junkies and hardcore partisans (who already have their minds made up either way). Most Republican senators won't give a sh!t either way if there are witnesses or not because 95% of them are going to vote NO regardless.

Let's all be clear. It isn't about changing anyone's mind. It about going where the evidence takes you and uncovering how deep this thing goes.

I think everyone wants that.

I personally think witnesses would help with this, but I clearly have no access to the evidence. Maybe the Dems have a smaller hand to play than we think they do. Or maybe witnesses aren't needed to get the point they need to make across. The is also the issue of timelines and subpoena fights etc.

Either way, the condemnation and the defense from condemnation is all moot until we see how this plays out.

Can we wait and see how this plays out? That way neither side ends up looking like fools.

This isn’t a criminal trial though and once the republicans said they had no interest in holding Trump accountable due to it being unconstitutional or supposedly because it makes people angry what do you want ? You think month long trials will accomplish what your saying? The best thing to do is be like ok then you agree that he shouldn’t serve in office and lose his perks then right ? So explain then if dems use the 14 th amendment to bar him why your voting against it ?
I get what your saying in principle but if the other side has zero interest in principle you still need to do the right thing and let them all answer for why someone they said caused a insurrection doesn’t deserve this trial

This trial isn't for Republicans. It's for independent voters who both sides will need in 2022 &2024. If you aren't going to use all the tools necessary why bother? As @mastermind has said. Yes, it's not a criminal trial but you still can be charged with perjury so calling witnesses is a positive for Democrats no matter what. The the Senate trying all impeachments doesn't stop just because a POTUS left office. Mind you McConnell didn't want to hold a trial while Trump was in office after saying he committed impeachable offenses. Then voted that a post presidency trial was unconstitutional. If you say holding Trump to account is important by God use everything to nail him and his associates to the wall and to hell with the GOP who supported his lies and actions. If no one is hard on these officials it will happen again and it will eventually succeed. Then what? Mass rioting? Civil war?
