I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
Was thinking about it. How is it different
I can't speak for everyone, but I love the whole experience of going to the movie theater. Deciding what movie to see, what snacks you want to sneak in or buy, trying to reserve the best seats, and building your anticipation level up, When you're at the movie theater - you've got the biggest screen and sound system possible, you can focus on the movie & not be distracted by other things which makes you really get into and invest in it, and I like being around the other people who get into it just as much as you do. One of the best examples of that happened a few months ago when the subject of Toy Story 3 came up at work and someone mentioned watching it at home and enjoying it. Then I chimed in and was telling her that I saw it in the theater, and the scene where the gang was in the incinerator had everyone on the edge of their seats and you could hear the collective sigh of relief when the Pizza Planet aliens came in for the save with the claw. She admitted that sounded more fun and exciting. Top Gun: Maverick was tailer made for people like me in mind who like that kind of thing. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, and that's okay, but I enjoy that kind of experience and I think it's an amazing & fun time. That's why I hope movie theaters will stick around for a while.

80's Baby Certified Stamp of a Approval. I never knew what a Top Gun Sequel would look like, but this was definitely it. Damn. Makes me upset because this was the Franchise that Tom should of been making sequels too. I mean I love "Mission Impossible" but they left Millions on the table by having no Top Gun Sequels in the 80's and 90's. I mean we even had the "Iron Eagle" Trilogy during that time. Even though I enjoyed it, I can't put it over the original. Tony Scott has this unique aesthetic in his films. You have to grow up on it. But it gave me what I wanted from the sequel. Also since it's been 36 years, the Franchise lived on a Stand Alone Film and video games for all this time and remained popular. Props Tom. Box Office killin it too but that's not shocking. The first Top Gun won 1986 Box Office and adjust to over 450 Million. Also the Nostalgia was good but not overbearing so it still felt fresh and new. The flying was definitely better for sure. I wasn't expecting the Soundtrack to top the original but glad the played "Danger Zone", that's an 80's Classic.

This might be the best word of mouth movie I've seen grow in years. Has a damn near 100% approval rating from everyone I've ever talked to
I know you don’t care for it, but fury road back in 2015 had crazy world of mouth I remember yet for some reason it didn’t translate to the box office that well. I admit not as much as TGM though

I really like fury road...just don't think it's on terminator 2 status. I like this more than fury road FWIW but both are grade A. I'd make t2 and this A+ with honors tho.

This right here, they did the perfect balance of nostalgia without pulling in a bunch of unnecessary old shyt or doing a lazy remake . Plus it was ballsy as hell to make Maverick kind of a bust as an officer but a great pilot.

I agree, it's an awesome movie, but the OG is still my favorite of the two.

Tom said the reason why he didn't want to make a sequel in the 80's and 90's was that he felt it would be irresponsible. He didn't want to help the military recruit more people into war, which how he ended doing the anti-war movie Born on the 4th of July. They had to really work to convince him to do this sequel. I think he thought enough time had past that it wouldn't become a recruitment arm for the Navy.

Cruise previously shared criticisms over the portrayal of war in “Top Gun,” telling Playboy that the film was received in a variety of different ways.

“Some people felt that ‘Top Gun’ was a right-wing film to promote the Navy. And a lot of kids loved it,” Cruise said at the time, via Gizmodo. “But I want the kids to know that that’s not the way war is — that ‘Top Gun’ was just an amusement park ride, a fun film with a PG-13 rating that was not supposed to be reality.”

He added, “That’s why I didn’t go on and make ‘Top Gun II’ and III and IV and V. That would have been irresponsible.”
