That would be bad for other nations, only the US can really field a strong squad of say under 23s (i think for football its 23 and under and there are 3 spots for any ages)

no one cares about the fiba world cup

I mean the next fiba world cup is being hosted by japan, phillipines and indonesia in two years, How many NBA players do you think are going to waste their time going from August 25 to September 10, 2023 halfway across the world and then go right back to training camp
The rest of world cares about the FIBA World Cup more than the Olympics. It’s only the US and Canada that don’t.

True. American NBA players really only care about the Olympics every 4 years ago.

Many NBA players don't really care about FIBA like that. It's a shame because if top-level NBA players participated in FIBA games more consistently then they would already have pre-established chemistry for the Olympics.

It wouldn't be like this current roster which is just an amalgamation of ISO ballers :pachaha:

why do people perpetuate this lie?

Olympics are the pinnacle of international Basketball outside the US, too. The FIBA World Cup/World Chanpionship was never as highly regarded as olympic b-ball.

Its not a lie.

Its a bigger tournament, it lasts longer and more teams compete.

It's that way so that FIBA makes more money, which is why they even sold wild cards to countries that originally didn't qualify in the past :mjlol:

go ask Ginobili and Scola if they would trade their Gold medal for a FIBA championship

a lie doesn't become true if you repeat it more often

That doesnt mean the athletes and fans hold it in higher regard. When Ginobli and cast were running Argentina all they talked about was wanting to have a good showing and win in the Olympics. Same thing with Spain, they actually won the world cup prior to the Olympics but all they were talking about was using that momentum to win the Olympic gold. Kobe was taunting Pau over that shyt, all Pau wanted was to win the Olympic gold over the US, not the FIBA world cup.

Dirk came out and said his goal was to get Germany just to qualify for the Olympics, he was so proud of that shyt he was their flag bearer in the opening ceremonies. Mind you that he already had a world cup medal and MVP, instead of focusing on getting that again he was focused on the Olympics.

All international competition is a way to make money. The Olympics are the biggest money spinner there is in sports. They are hosting these games with no crowds during a pandemic just to make money. :dwillhuh:

And you can ask Divac and Stojkavic if they would trade their World Championship gold medals for an Olympic gold medal, the answer will also probably be no.

I thought it was known all international players care about the Olympics. Cuban once called himself trying to talk Dirk out of playing for Germany.

I don't care about how fans feel because our view is only the American fan view. Americans rate the Olympics the pinnacle of all sports because its what we have been sold. Other nations rate consistency higher.

Dirk never won the FIBA World Championship/Cup. Also the Olympics were the next summer, so there is always momentum for the next international competition.

but who is getting the cut from the olympics? FIBA? no, the answer is the IOC

go on and enjoy the FIBA World Cup with games like Jordan-Venezuela and the US D team, while I'll watch Italy-Australia and the US B team at the Olympics :yeshrug:

you want to talk about consistency? Olympic Basketball been around since 1936, longer than the FIBA World Championship. Every 4 years.

Meanwhile FIBA started post WW II, rebranded from 'World Championship' to 'World Cup', switched from even to uneven years and watered down the level of competetion so that countries like the Philippines can qualify. Just so that FIBA can maximize the money.
