Thor: Ragnarok has yet to open in many of the world’s biggest markets, and already the film is expected to pass the $400 million mark by Sunday.
The third Thor film saw release in 36 markets last weekend, bringing in $109 million. The film’s numbers will skyrocket once the movie hits U.S./Canada, China, Japan, Germany, Russia and Mexico. Already, the film is set to eclipse the $449 million Thor brought in six years ago. To date, the Thor movie franchise has made $1.09 billion altogether.
The industry expects Thor: Ragnarok to dominate the worldwide box office, with overseas numbers already hitting $150 million and the US and Canada market expected to bring in $100-$120 million once the films sees release worldwide. Another $50 million is expected to come from China alone this weekend.
RottenTomatoes already has Thor: Ragnarok as the best-reviewed title in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a 96% Certified Fresh rating. It’s the seventh MCU film to reach 90% or higher.
Opening Friday nationwide, director Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Karl Urban as Skurge, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
