They showed that he was another accused child murderer.
I would assume that he was "framed" by whatever supernatural force it was that was behind what happened to Jason Bateman's character.

He has something to do with the reason why the cops and reporters were harassing the nursing home that Holly visited.

Right. He worked at that hospital (is probably the male nurse that bumped into Terry Maitland and caused the big cut his daughter was talking about). Somehow, Terry Maitland’s father knows he didn’t kill those girls. Maybe the Alzheimer’s disease allows him to see things sane people cannot. Or maybe the supernatural force spoke to him like it spoke to Terry’s daughter, and naturally people are just dismissing it as crazy talk.
