Yeah if you want to truly digest the movie it helps to know a lot of shyt beforehand

Most people don’t know who Jimmy Hoffa was nor do they even understand the union links to the mob or how they came to be historically

It’s not just some shoot em up bang bang shyt and this movie is so long and dialogue heavy that you have to focus
Wouldn’t say knowing the story before hand makes much of a difference. They give details about who is who and what they do in the movie. That’s good enough for the casual head.

Goodfellas was based on a true story. I didn’t/don’t know shyt when I watched and still enjoyed it. :ld:

Finally decided to watch (that 3+ hour runtime was keeping me away) and damn this was a great movie.

Great story, great cast, and the actors delivered. Didn't really feel the 3+ hours since I was enjoying it.

I would rank this ahead of Casino and maybe just a tad below Goodfellas. I won't argue folks who say this is above Goodfellas though because I thought it was that good. Goodfellas had more action, comedy and drama rolled into a great story, while this is more of a slow burn, immersive story.

Agreed. I was sad after the movie was over. Because I know we'll never see Pacino, De Niro, Pesci, and Scorsese do a movie together again. And it's near the end of all their careers.

They way all the guys in the movie died and got taken out, had me :mjcry: Because off screen it was an end of an era of the greatest actors

Saw it in theatres...had to miss a pivitol scene b/c I couldn't hold it any longer and had to piss.

I love The Irishman, I personally think it's underrated and should've won several Oscars, particularly Pesci, however the academy had their agenda with that overrated ass Parasite movie and its critique of classism

The Irishman & 1917 were both far better than Parasite

1917 was shot so beautifully to the point where I just had to cop the 4K, but its story didn’t have nearly as much depth as Parasite and The Irishman to me. That was my main gripe with it.

It didn't but I'm cool w/ a war movie not wasting time developing love stories and backstory.

True, I respect that. Felt a similar way to you with All Quiet on the Western Front when it comes to backstories in war films. Still didn’t feel as empty as 1917 though, I’ll say.

1917 was just a Gimmick movie. Technically impressive but I forgot about it once I left the theater
The only thing people will remember about this movie is this scene.
