They get money off the merchandise part of the reason why it was easier to make a deal and marvel will definitely get a cut of the movie money.
If Snyder could direct a film as good as Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, DC Films would have two hits under their belt instead of two bricks.

I hope this nikka doesn't drop out a month from now talking about "creative differences". 
If War For the Planet of the Apes delivers, Reeves will basically cement his status as an a-list big budget director. DC is actually showing some smarts locking him up now, before that movie drops this summer and his price tag goes up.
Meanwhile, Snyder was already dropping duds BEFORE he got Man of Steel. Not sure how your comparison is relevant, but
