Tom is just as qualified for the position as any of the kids. He has hands on experience working within the company and under Logan for years. He led a whole division in Waystar. Publicly................when has Tom been showing to be panicking and unfit?

The kids aren't qualified either. Mattson could have picked anyone for CEO, he didn't have to pick from this lot.

And Tom panics damn near every episode lol his entire life is one prolonged panic attack. That's who you want as your CEO?

Shiv was talking & doing way too much, spewing out her own ideals for Waystar/Gojo, and wanted to be side by side with Mattson. That magazine cover illustration of Shiv controlling a goofy looking Mattson crushed his soul and it was a wrap on their partnership after that. Tom was already in place running ATN, he knows his sh*t tv wise, and was down to play ball for whatever Mattson needed even take on any type of heat that would come about if they had to downsize and their subscriber numbers were fugazi in South Asia. Mattson also said he needed an American as the face so there was no outrage because Waystar/Royco was a longtime American institution of a business. It might change later but Tom was the perfect choice for what Mattson needed after the deal was closed

If you all think Tom was qualified to be in charge of anything, let alone a billion dollar media company, then we have very different values when it comes to business.

Imma disagree

Tom deeply loves Shiv and has from the jump. He is a social climber and saw her as a way up, but he worshiped her until she told him he didn’t love him.

He used to look out for her deeply until that day and he been out for himself since.
Yep. She was dumb to take him for granted. Once she decided to marry him she needed to at least pretend to respect him. It literally would’ve been the two of them against the world if she played it properly.

Perfect example, Willa knows her arrangement with Connor is fake as hell, but as long as she doesn’t literally confirm it they will both play along and he will do right by her.

Breh, Greg told Tom the day of his wedding that Shiv was having an affair and Tom didnt give af. All he cared about was getting into the family. He didnt even go to Logans funeral cause he never gave af about the Roys only getting himself into a position of power. Tom won and now Shiv has to suck dikk like he was sucking Roy dikk for 2 years.

The man cried when seeing Shiv about not going. Tom didn't go because he was shook, especially since he was one of the last people to see him alive.

I think you completely misread the character, homie.

Remember Roman:

Is that the way he remembers his kid's names
uhh huhh Sophie's room?

Points forward

so many quotes, I have a list I'll try to post from first 3. This is easily one of the best written shows of all time. Can't think of more timely or hilarious writing. Tom and Roman get a lot of punch lines, but Kendall has a handful too.

Also love is such a squishy/badly defined word, anyone can say what's love, and what's not love, and be right to a degree, you have to look at the writing to point you to where each person loves the other, Tom loved Shiv, and she did too, she's just never going to "love" the way we might want our partner to. She can't. Or it would take years of therapy.

I've loved at least a few women, but someone could say "well then why aren't you together" or whatever, and I know they loved me too, but someone could again say "well then why didn't you blah blah"

Another great Kendall line: (shows his tendency to hide behind corporate nonsense jargon)

"I don't know what to think, I love him, I hate him, I'm going to outsource this is my therapist"

People's misreadings of Tom here and everywhere are wild...

  1. He loved Shiv. He was hurt when she didn't love him back.
  2. He loved money even more. She introduced him to the lifestyle and he fell in love with it. He tells her this, and you this, directly.
  3. He was good at his job, which was to manage / lead organizations, and take the heat of his superiors and the public. That is a core job of all management. He isn't a true leader, he is a true manager.
  4. He was desperate to find out how to impress Logan. He thought loving his daughter would. Nope, that gets negative respect and he shyt on Tom to his face in front of the family for it. He thought buying a nice gift would. Nope, why buy a gift for a man who has everything. He thought running a line of business would. Nope, you're just a cog. Nah, what Logan respects is loyalty, guts and cunning. Tom showed that he will eat off your plate. He showed that he'd go to jail for Logan. He showed that he'd sell out his family for the business, that is why Logan ended up bringing Tom closer, nothing else. And the moment he realized that, and that it gets him closer to the money, nothing else mattered including shiv's love or approval.
  5. He started to move the same way. He doesn't give a fukk about Greg other than Greg's ability to be loyal, or be leveraged. Just like logan. He was Logan's best pupil
  6. Again, Tom only cares about the money...he doesn't even really care about the power. He's MORE than content being the CEO of the biggest media company in the world (😆). It's one of the best jobs a professional c suite manager can have in the world. Scoffing at that is comedy.

Tom won. Period. Any reading that he didn't shows you don't know toms motivations or how he moved to get there. he doesn't give a fukk about that family and doesn't need to anymore.

People, I think especially post 2012 or so, project way too much on characters, and theories. It's surreal. Art is up for interpretation, but I have had several convos kind of pointing out which way the writing is pointing us, as viewers. And there response is kind of like "well it's my opinion"

Reading profiles of actors and writers and directors, they often have no idea what the fukk the fans are talking about.

Don't want to sound like a jerk man, but you are misreading the scene. He's so pained by the infidelity (also the loss of control and respect that would come with infidelity)

that he "beats up" Greg in the way that only a super goofball B list Ivy League prep school kid can.

He can't process that, in a healthy way, so he shuts down and reacts physically, partially to shut Greg up, but more to just distract himself from what he 100% knows to be true, and the pain the knowledge brings him. it's textbook avoidance.
