True, but as people were saying, Pierce is actual old money. That's why dopey-ass Kendall trying to use "new money" as an insult to Mattson was so funny. Like breh, you're one generation away from that, not multiple generations like Pierce.
thats not why it was funny. It was funny because Kendall put the clown nose on Mattson metaphorically speaking. It was an exposure of Mattson in front of political and economic giants. Like "look at this jackass who just got into a room like this" :rudy:

The difference between the Pierce family and the Roys that they are ACADEMIA and left-social california wealth, vs. Enterprise and media wealth. The time of their wealth was not very relevant in terms of the differences in the families.

In the world of wealth there are classes that look down on each other
  • Oil and energy barons think academics are weak and respect only power [bush family]
  • Real estate tyc00ns think everyone else is a sucker and they're building the entire country
  • Media people think others are cowards because they take risks and manipulate messaging, and since they do, they feel untouchable
  • Academics think everyone else with wealth are cretins and have their own tier of parties and private clubs others never fit in
  • Finance wealth, we know more than everyone else on the list above and don't respect any of their abilities, since they need us regardless
  • Tech wealth thinks everyone are dinosaurs, dumb, slow, and are ripe for the picking...everyone else things the tech bros are idiots who take ridiculous risks, and don't fit in with the above groups
Mattson is a joke to the people in that room because...he just 'got here', and is unquestionably new money...and nobody in those circles gets less respect than a new money techbro. Whether or not the Roy family is 'new or old money' is honestly irrelevant. They grew up with money. Its also the difference between Tom and the rest of the family.

I disagree one hundred percent at why that line was funny and your read of Pierce vs. the Roys, but if you found it funny for that reason, who am I to tell you that your sense of humor is wrong?

actually...is Nan old money? She's from new england and acts superior but she is just a media mogul like Logan right? I mean she has a junkie daughter just like how Logan has Kendall :heh:

Everything about Ebba and Mattson and now India feels staged. I havenā€™t been able to buy it since day 1. Feels too easy.

I thought so too but she looked worried when kendall brought it up to mattson during their passive aggressive hug off. When shiv told him they know about india he brought her up and the other smug a$$hole. Not sure this could help him in anyway. And now kendall wants to buy him out.

But when ebba said his rep was all made up and hes not a genius coder at all, im thinking now hes not as smart as he thinks and is just a smug euro.

I thought the blood thing was bs cause he told shiv; but a second source confirmed it to roman. I thought he used that to test her loyalty but now it seems actually true.
I said it the other week but this isnā€™t the type of show where rich people are portrayed as being smarter than everyone else (thatā€™s Billions). What weā€™re seeing is what we get with Mattson: a smug, weird a$$hole who doesnā€™t care about consequences and believes his money can solve everything.

From day one this show has told us that billionaires arenā€™t any smarter than anyone else so i would be highly surprised if it turns out Mattson has been playing the long game. Theyā€™ve never had any twists like that before from what I remember.

This is the thesis of the show. I agree. I get why people are talking about false flags and other twists of that nature, but the show has always been about what frauds these billionaires are, and having Mattson or the kids pull off some intricate plan would go against that thesis.

I agree with you. This isn't that type of show and it isnt what Armstrong is interested in portraying.

It still feels staged, despite me not thinking that is where they are going.
I feel this, though. It's because you're smart enough to be thinking, Nah, I would never move this recklessly, I would only be giving this information to set someone up, that must be it. It's easy to forget that you, as the viewer, are infinitely smarter and wiser than these characters, no matter how much money they have.

Romanā€™s eulogy is gonna be it. Whether itā€™s a train wreck, or a tear-jerker, itā€™s going to be that characterā€™s defining moment. With only Shiv coming close, Roman was the most devoted to Logan, and has been a subsequent train wreck in trying to cope with Logan croaking. He was the only child that went on the plane to look at the body, and has been trying ever since to disassociate from the reality that Loganā€™s really gone.

Then thereā€™s also the fact this will be his first actual public speech. Romanā€˜s always been forced to play the background because heā€™s a ā€œsickoā€. He couldā€™ve joined Kendall for the Living+ speech, but he loafed and felt emasculated. Now heā€™s got the spotlight solely him, heā€™s an emotional timebomb right now, and the last thing Roman said to his father was Roman actually standing up for himself, and calling Logan out on his bs (ā€œAre you a c*nt?ā€).

Look how happy he was before he realized he didnā€™t say anything in the video, he wants to be recognized as somebody.

Heā€™s Fredo if Fredo never went against the family, and now itā€™s his time to shineā€¦on the biggest stage possible for him.
