what does this policy mean for the kids who are in college right now? they literally missed the boat by 1 year?

the class ahead of them gets their entire shyt paid off as soon as they graduate, but since they come one year later, they have to pay it all off themselves? thats ridiculous

why should someone who graduated in 2020 just get their whole balance paid off after making a few months worth of payments?

cancelling interest is the obvious first step, for current and future generations

if you want to borrow/invest 30k into going to college, then just have people pay back 30 at 0 interest. these fukkin 6 percent interest rates that keep loans perpetual are disgusting

I'm not drowning in debt, but sure as hell won't say no to forgiveness

If actual politicians and economists are proposing this and saying it could have a huge boost to economy, why object to it only because you don't benefit directly from it?

funny, i thought the objection was that going to college is a choice, and the national debt by definition belongs to everyone

if you cant explain how its fair to people who didnt go to college, you're gonna have a hard time pushing this shyt through its one thing for bernie and warren and schumer to pander about it, its another thing to make it happen

and i support relief, like i laid out earlier in the thread. but blank check forgiveness is a tough sell when 2/3 of the country either paid it off themselves or didnt go to college

it's not fair that i work and pay taxes for someone else to get free food and housing from the government when 80% of the country pays its own rent/mortgage and for its own food, i want a check.

it's not fair that people in metro areas pay bridge/road tolls to support roads and bridges in the rural parts of their state that they never use, i want a check

it's not fair that people who pay a whole person's salary in taxes didn't get a stimulus check, i want a check

it's not a strawman...it's literally how government works, not everything benefits everyone, wtf, that doesn't mean you leave those segments hanging

and what's unrealistic about canceling UP TO 50k in debt, that's not canceling all debt, and knowing Biden, that number will be much lower, 10-15k in fed student loan cancellation is a much smaller number than the millions of people who don't pay any taxes to the govt each year.

where is the pay my shyt off argument...this is about forgiving a part of people's student loans, if you only owe 17k, congrats, it's gone, if you owe 80k, well you still have a ways to go. debt forgiveness programs are not new in the private or public sector...
