This is how the show has always been. That's why the writing is so good.
You'd think it would be obvious day one shyt for a writer but everything in your story should connect directly to the plot. Stranger things does a masterful job of this
If you pay attention you'll see a lot of current GOAT material follows this format. No main characters and a loaded cast that works out their parts of the plot in small groups. These groups then combine with their puzzle pieces to try to solve the main problem. If you do it right people feel like they're watching 3-4 movies/shows at once
Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, Infinity War(and Phase 1-3 for that matter), Cobra Kai follow this format and have huge fanbases(HAD in the case of Thrones
)And the benefit of a large cast with no main characters is the possibility of multiple mini fanbases for one story
