This is a very cynical take on both Picard's career and the future of Starfleet.

Not sure how I feel about it yet.
I don’t see it as cynical actually. At least not for him. He stood up for the right thing even when it wasn’t easy. That’s him to a tee. And he quit on principle which is also him to a tee. And I also buy him staying on that vineyard being lost because he’s always been lost without that ship and without a mission.

I do know some fans will take issue with starfleet in this scenario though but I think in order to reflect our reality, as Star Trek has always tried to do, starfleet has to become a bit more complex
