The problem with Shadow is, the moment he shows up, Knuckes is no longer Sonic's rival and becomes irrelevant.

Think of what happened to Piccolo after Vegeta showed up. Dude basically became a babysitter.

Knuckles was still relevant all the way up to Sonic Adventure, the villain was basically related to his clan's backstory. Knuckles had his own story and even had a fight with Sonic in that game.

Then Sonic Adventure 2 drops. Shadow shows up, and Knuckles basically just becomes Team Sonic Member #3. And I like SA2, but I'm just saying.

i guess but realistically Knuckles was not much of a villian half way thru S&K. He was a frienemy and by the end of the game he was a pal.
