Yea these ratings are always weird. Shows that you think would obviously be higher end up doing the opposite, and a show you think is dreadful gets a bump

This is a 1st 10 weeks as WWE Champion ratings comparison using two newly crowned champions during different periods of Smackdown Live without looking at those pesky variables and nuances etc.

On one hand you have AJ Styles. One of the best in the world. Someone the fans think the company should be built around. Who became champ after the brand split during a time when Smackdown Live was considered by some to easily be WWE's best show [citation needed].

On the other hand you have Jinder Mahal. No stripes or cred. Someone the fans think of as an undeserving career jobber. Who became champ after the superstar shakeup during a time when Smackdown Live is considered by some to have fallen off [citation needed].

Smackdown Live viewership with AJ Styles as WWE Champion
1: 2.658 million viewers
2: 2.292 million viewers
3: 2.340 million viewers
4: 2.316 million viewers
5: 2.448 million viewers
6: 2.405 million viewers
7: 2.127 million viewers
8: 2.187 million viewers
9: 1.921 million viewers
10: 2.725 million viewers

Smackdown Live viewership with Jinder Mahal as WWE Champion
1: 2.328 million viewers
2: 2.350 million viewers
3: 2.349 million viewers

4: 2.072 million viewers
5: 2.597 million viewers
6: 2.603 million viewers
7: 2.329 million viewers
8: 2.465 million viewers
9: 2.548 million viewers

10: 2.535 million viewers

Based on the evidence provided. It's easy to see why Jinder Mahal is best for business and clearly the better WWE Champion. He also doesn't need to be all over the show or in constant free tv main events to hold ratings steady.

Out of their respective first 12 weeks as champion of SDL, Jinder Mahal has now had better ratings than AJ Styles for 9 of those weeks.
