Came in 3rd with 18mil first weekend

y'all don't got no love for sly & rambo

gave j lo 30mil for a hooker movie

:mjlol:

And that's with being a brutal Rated-R movie, it was the 2nd best Rambo opening weekend ever. Astra only finished slightly ahead and that's with an 80 million dollar budget.

It's currently at 22 million, I'm wondering it it'll have legs this upcoming weekend. :jbhmm:

Watched it last night. It was decent. I think I'm one of the few that felt the same way about the 2008 movie. I wasn't blown away by that one either, but I've seen it a few times since it initially came out and it's fine.

Neither movie feels like Rambo to me, but at least the previous movie had the military/war aspect. This was just another gritty, violent revenge flick that could've easily been Stallone starring as anyone but John Rambo. Not saying he wasn't justified in this movie, but the character went from a man haunted by the past, seeking peace & always wanting to avoid conflict to a complete psycho embracing the monster within.

I'd love to hear Stallone comment on what David Morrell has said about this movie. From what I've read, Stallone himself wanted a more "soulful" movie about the character initially, and at one point a script was being written for it for be a smaller film more in tone with the first one taking place entirely in a small town, but it was the studio that pushed for the violent revenge story. Although it does sound like Stallone was ultimately okay with what the movie turned out to be. I don't think he was doing this begrudgingly or wasn't committed 100% to what the movie came to be. I feel like the voice over he did at the end to give the movie and character more weight was tacked on and didn't really gel with the vibe of the movie.

I really hope this is the end but with Stallone, you never know. He's flip-fopped on Rocky, Rambo and Expendables sequels as often as the weather changes. He most recently has said he has an idea for a sequel. I love Stallone and I love Rambo, but he's 73 years old, and honestly how much time does he have left anyway? Time to give Rambo a rest. He literally rode off into the sunset in this movie. Let that be the end. His story is done.

What's interesting is that Morrell said the film was dehumanizing and he was embarrassed. But if you look at First Blood, in the book Rambo was a murderous psychopath who killed a ton of people. It was Stallone who humanized Rambo and made it so that he didn't kill anyone in the film (unless you count the cop that fell off the chopper).

So I thought it was a bit hypocritical to come across as if his Rambo was a pacifist.
