I remember watching Breaking Bad and thinking man...the cops would have this dude locked up in a year if this was The Wire. Breaking Bad was full of some sloppy shyt (phones, trusting a drug addict with major business, etc) but it at least tried to stay grounded to a degree and then leaned so hard into the strengths of the characters/acting that you could accept the sloppy stuff. Not to mention Breaking Bad had consequences. A major character got smoked in the midst of the very same "white person involved in heavy shyt moves around without fear of retribution or danger" vibe I get from Ozark. You think it's one way...it's the other way. That hasn't happened in Ozark yet, at least not for the Byrd family.

Even the ending with the two characters dying (dunno how spoilers work here so I won't use names)...that person would have been dead ages ago in a show that was better written. But because that person needed to stick around to advance certain parts of the plot...they were allowed to do all types of WILD shyt and disrespect (and shoot!) important people with no consequences. Hell...

fukk it, spoilers:

You kill the leader of a major mob/gang and nothing happens, even after the son learns about it? Literally the only reason you die is because Javi pays a visit? Come on. Not to mention Ruth allowing Wyatt to hang around that chick KNOWING that bad shyt was probably gonna happen?
fukk that shyt the show has been out a week and this is a discussion thread:russ:

And that's all I've been saying about Breaking Bad. People wanna elevate it so far over Ozark but they're not that far apart due to how ridiculous both shows can get

I'm big on world and story building when it comes to fictional shows. What's believable and acceptable in one show doesn't automatically translate to every other show in the same genre.

People are trying to bring down Breaking Bad while propping up Ozark in this thread by simply saying, "ridiculous stuff happened on BB!!!!". It's like yes, of course, but to say that without context is laughable.

One of the main differences between the shows is how the main characters went about handling the illegal shyt they were doing with their families. In Breaking Bad, nobody had a clue or even reason to suspect that Walter White was who he was. He kept it from his family. It's a vast contrast from Marty Byrde who's been transparent about the fukkery since S1 once the shyt hit the fan. It's literally been a family business... the FBI and Feds have been on Marty's ass since early on as well. That alone dictates and impacts what's seen as "sloppy" in terms of the writing for both shows.

I remember the BB threads being lit and people trying to put the pieces on what would happen together each season. I never seen people trash the writing of that show or call it sloppy, mainly because it wasn't.

Just finished

Wyatt is such a goddamn loser:mjlol:

and Ruth…like woman we told you from the beginning that these cartel dudes don’t play. Don’t come crying to me now.:francis:

And my god Wendy really surpassed Skyler as the Queen of TV Karens. That woman is vile.:hhh:. Every move she makes just creates more shyt for Marty to clean up

Respectfully

If you're in a Netflix thread for a show before you finished it

I tagged it, but yeah. If you haven't binged it by now you shouldn't be in this thread, period.

I agree with this. I didn’t dare click on this thread until I finished this season.

Low key, Ozark is such a good show that it should be a weekly release and benefit from the conversation that would be generated. But folks ain’t ready for that. :sas2:

7 episodes, people online don’t usually spoil Ozark, but I still wouldn’t wait to watch. The second half I think they said will release the second half of this year, but who knows how solid that is.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Man fukk that.....

I'm riding with Jonah on this. I cannot fukking stand Wendy. She don't give a damn about her family for real, that's why they keep trying to leave her and she has to betray them to stay. She had no problem letting Marty get killed and possibly her kids, when she was gonna run from Chicago.. Then she was all truth when it was time to tell the kids.. "No more lies, you deserve to know." Then proceeds to lie to them every step of the way. When it was time to get Helen, Jonah rolled up in that bytch like the Terminator. Ready to clap her. He knew about the cartel and what they might do. Knew the kids was right upstairs. Was going to plug her ass anyway. When he found out the truth, he didn't beat around the bush. He straight up looked Wendy in the eye and said you did it bytch. fukk you.. And stood on that shyt the entire 7 episodes. Like fukk you. You killed my favorite Uncle, looked me in the face and asked for some damn sympathy as if they caught you.

Ok maybe you forgive her after a day or two... Nah I come home and you bodying the Sherriff.. .I turn on the TV and you lying about my favorite uncle... Smearing his name when nobody is even asking about him. Making graves and shyt like you didn't do this. Then you cut my goddamn power off. Stopping my paper... I can't even jerk off no more :damn:

You lucky I'm still coming home to eat
