Netflix continues its transformation from streaming platform to glorified HBO competitor, adding dozens of original titles in April while losing lots of its licensed catalog. If you’re underwhelmed by Netflix’s own work and you were in this for the classic film library, it might be time to unsubscribe.
Licensed movies coming to Netflix in April include
All the President’s Men, Snatch, Spy Kids, The Fifth Element, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and
Pineapple Express.
Season 7 of
New Girl is coming too, but almost all the TV shows arriving on Netflix this month are Netflix originals, including
Ultraman,
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 2, a new season of
She-Ra, and nature doc
Our Planet. There’s also a new comedy special from Kevin Hart.
Netflix isn’t losing any major TV shows this month, but it is losing valuable movies. In April, Netflix loses
American Pie,
Heat,
Silver Linings Playbook,
Billy Madison,
Happy Gilmore,
Happy Feet, every iteration of
Clone Wars, and eleven Bond films. Damn. And I didn’t know that high-budget web series
Video Game High School was even on Netflix, but it’s leaving on April 13.
