"The Cross" is exactly why a lot of 9th's remixes don't work for me. 9th's beats were dope, but still sounded like blends. Eminem's beat for "The Cross" is slow and skeletal, but Nas brought life to it. The flow, the intensity, and especially the lyrics made the song. The only producer I could see touching that song and elevating the beat is Dre. I could see him adding his own drums, maybe having Mark Batson or Storch on the keys, and adding some hauting strings to it all without it drowning Nas out. I can imagine it sounding like a harder hitting version of Obie's "Oh No".

9th exposed how he was a beatmaker and not a producer. At least if he didn't push the narrative of nas' beat selection. But he started become annoying when he started begin for nas' à capella everytime nas was dropping an album

I remember hearing him sayin he made God's stepson out of frustration about God's son beats. I was like, really nikka :what:

It's bizarre because I was thinking about "The Cross" earlier before I even saw this thread. I always loved that song. It's obviously not the best beat on the album, but Nas destroyed it. The production went well with what Nas was talking about: Taking his spot back as New York's king, how his guns will change your complexion, Jungle being jealous of him, evil women, and R&B rappers that arguably.....started fukking up the game horribly. Dark, intense, serious content and Eminem's beat went well with that. Only thing that would have made the song better is if Eminem himself was on it. Missed opportunity.

Now, compare that to 9th's production. Happy, skippy, and the complete opposite of what Nas was talking about. It's like what happened with Jay-Z and "Things That U Do," but way worse. And Nas' vocals are pitched up for some bizarre reason, which makes it sound like some YouTube mashup instead of an actual song which "The Cross" was.

I doubt 9th improved any of the other songs, either. No way he did better than "Get Down" or "Book of Rhymes" or "Warrior Song" or "Heaven."

The first time I started to actually appreciate the cross was when he opened his gods son live tour with it live in NY. It was epic

Even the ether 9th version was trash. It had none of the dramatic feeling of the original.
Made you look and book of rhyme original shat on his version too
