How is working with a Dame Grease, Swizz or a Timbaland not his lane? I think that is kind of what she meant with the fan base backlash. Just because the results were mixed before doesn't at all mean it isn't his lane. In regard to production, Nas really doesn't have a lane. He's made incredible songs over all kinds of production. I mean if we were going to let the past dictate the direction of Nas's albums, we wouldn't be getting these Hitboy albums considering "Black Girl Lost Pt. 2" sounds nothing sonically or quality wise like anything from the KD series or Magic. The Nasir album should've been classic considering the caliber of producer that Kanye is and that he and Nas have dope track record, but it wasn't, and I'd even argue that 15 second snippet produced by Timbaland was better and more interesting than that entire album. Swizz produced "No Bad Energy" and "Adult Film", which were two of the best songs from Lost Tapes 2.
I'm just referring to that style of production at the time (late 90s, early 00s) of keyboard beats, that type of drum programming, etc. In terms of Swizz nothing they did when Swizz was SWIZZ was great IMO. Yea I like Adult Film and No Bad Energy, but would you say either sound like a typical Swizz beat?

I feel like this is a great explanation:

Most Timbo shyt with crazy drums in the late 90s/00s wasn't on his court in my opinion. Imagine Nas rapping on...nikka What nikka Who. That bpm stop/start shyt prob not his lane right? I could see Biggie on that (think Notorious Thugs flow), but I can't see Pac on it for instance. It's not a commentary on who is better than who, just that some shyt is a home game and some shyt is an away game. When Timbo's drums are more traditional it works better for a rapper like Nas. Imagine Nas on Hola Hovito. It's a drum break...Nas would kill that shyt.

Nas kills break beats, boom bap drums, etc. He raps to the drums and that stuff unlocks his best flows typically. He can also rap on other shyt obviously, I'm just saying that this particular shyt is his home court. Might as well call it Queensbridge Arena or something because he's gonna put up a triple double.

Nas didn't link with Swizz when Swizz was SWIZZ. That was always crazy to me because he had production from Dame Grease. There were tracks from that era that could definitely have heard Nas rhyming over though. "Banned From TV" is one of them.

With Timbaland, I feel like something like "You Won't See Me Tonight" and even "You Owe Me" were serviced to Nas. Still, I always felt like having only one Timbo beat on an album interrupted the flow of the album regardless of how dope it was. There's a lot of 90's Timbaland that I think would have fit Nas like a glove.

I ain’t going to lie, I need kd3. These other artist aren’t doing it for me. Although, I do think that Freddie gibbs joint is fire. That is one of the only albums, I can rock with
