yoo, I got in...I just emailed the site admin and he got me an exception to join

I listed a bunch of unreleased nas joints still in the vault to keep track of...Nas has 150+ tracks, that's ~8 albums with 20 songs each

EDIT: does anybody have the uncensored version of Escobar 97? [actually, i'll post in the thread about songs I can't find]

About time! Welcome bro!

This is all true but Jay doesn’t get called out for his wack shyt nearly as much. Like I can’t see how anyone can criticize I Am when Vol. 3 dropped that same year and Jay gets nowhere near the flack. Even tho IMO. Nas had the better effort that year.
My theory has always been because there are huge hits that usually hide how weak those albums truly are. nikkaz overlook it because a Big Pimpin on it ect...

Schooling people takes forever; don't bother

^Put this on dailymotion because youtube blocked it, the original Music for Life...before busta & common jumped on it; Hi-Tek's verse was different too

my bad for posting reddit posts, but that was all I was working with at the time....Youtube songs blocked off youtube, but "if you know you know" about these songs:

Also. I don’t like the “new” version of Hate Me Now thats on the album now. I have no idea why they changed the build up instrumentation. On my OG CD it’s completely different.

very annoying indeed

Speculation:

you guys ever notice that voice on street dream's chorus at the end?

Assuming that everyone saw that video of Nas crediting the first few lines of One Mic to Jungle, Jungle may have been singing that street dreams chorus at the end

And given that Jungle is the A&R/CEO of Street Dreams records...connect the dots...Jungle inspired the hook and formation of Nas' Street Dreams song

Another experimental post...

you guys been paying attention to those Vocal Synthesis channels?

I was thinking about getting one of those guys to do a Nas vocal synthesis for the lyrics of Ether (Original), Spastic, White Man's Paper, Detroit's 98 FM Freestyle, and Thug's shyt...we have the transcript but no audio, but this may be a solution to simulate what some of Nas vaulted songs would sound like

Nas – Ether (Unreleased Edition) Lyrics | Genius Lyrics

Nas - Spastic (50 Cent Diss) Lyrics | MetroLyrics

I'm a white man's paper/brown by nature/green with envy/down to the red veins within me/built on blood stains/my frame/is wood grain/wit traces of cocaine/from rollin' with coke fiends/the game changed my name to Cream/like Alcinder/dreams paint the pictures/of places where I'll send ya. "the politics of warfare" w/ some new "African Dude" - Rolling Stone

Look at these clowns that be coming at me / Pac showed 'em how it was done in Makaveli / Exactly . . . who wanna attack me? / When y'all done with the dumb ish, we could break bread / I show you young black brothers how to get ahead / You think I'm not Mr. Entrepreneur / But every time I step out a car, it's from a Bentley door / And that's been happening since '94 / And y'all don't see me talking crack and raw / I hang with gangstas, the kind you never seen before / Or on Lear jets with Webber, no discussions of rap / We talk about American lives that were lost in Iraq / Talk about American lives that were lost in the hood / Al Green ballads and how shyt'd never be like it was / Pop bottles for my brothers in prison / Pop bottles for my girls who . . .

It Was A Lady Cop Sucking A Thug’s dikk, It Was Some Thug shyt, Some Bug shyt

---

It's gonna take a while to train the neural networks to produce clear vocal synthesis, but that was why I was gathering Nas acapellas to do this project, and then lace it to some beat with the help of one of the DJs here, to simulate the Nas tracks that are vaulted but have lyrics

The results still may turn out shytty, but with enough acapellas to train the network, I figure it was worth a try...the consolation prize is that we end up finding all the (lost) Nas acapellas to do DJ blends anyways

:ohhh: Yo now that u mention it it does sound like somethin that BIG would go crazy over. Like it was plucked from LAD.

Even had Big flow delivery.

I’ve been wondering if Nas was inspired by BIG on his cause it feels like a LAD track. Peep the slow flow switch in the third verse I can visualize biggie spitting that verse word for word.

I don't know about that one. There's a Jay Z interview where he talks about Vol. 3. He was talking about the album with a friend and they told him it was a weak album. Jay asked him how many songs he liked from it and his friend's response was "eight". Of course, Jay debated him in regard to how he could like eight songs, but still say it's a weak album.

I'm looking at Jay like "maybe he felt like the remaining 5 or 6 songs were the worst songs Jay ever made, therefore it's a weak album even though it has 8 songs that are heat". There's also the fact that he probably didn't feel the 8 songs he liked were all classics or some of Jay's best work.

I've never fully listened to Vol. 3 in its entirety, but I don't think it gets hate because the following songs are on it:

So Ghetto
Come And Get Me
Hova's Song Intro
Hova's Song Outro
It's Hot
Big Pimpin
NYMP
There's Been A Murder

"Jigga" being a bonus.

Some of I Am... was definitely inspired by Biggie. "Hate Me Now" was inspired by "Victory". And I think there's a 2008 interview where Nas reveals that "My Downfall" was the one song he's tried to top. Personally, I think Nas has several songs better than "My Downfall" and Biggie is an MC that I think is Top 3. I got Nas over Biggie though.

Nah. He said it was “due”. 2 of em was “due” meaning IWW and I Am was “cool”. He said one was “nah” which would be Nastradamus. The other will Illmatic. That’s a one hot album every 10 year average. So basically Illmatic was a classic, IWW and I Am was aight. And Nastradamus was trash.

I always interpreted that he said two of them shyts was doo. Like doo do. The other was just ehhhh like ut was ok.

Great article breaking down I Am...

Here's an excerpt:

That infamous dart from Jay Z cooked up the idea in the minds of many that raps former golden child had been releasing nothing but sh*t sandwiches post-It Was Written. And while Jigga was partially right with his critique, he also wrongfully shytted on ‘I Am…’ and is a large reason for why the album doesn’t get the respect it deserves. I’ll be the first to admit it’s far from the greatness of an ‘Illmatic’ or ‘It Was Written,’ it doesn’t deserve the distinction of being sonically grouped-in with a clusterfukk the likes of ‘Nastradamus.’

Sure, it has its horrendous moments (‘Big Things’) and is a victim of subpar production at times, but is a pretty solid effort overall. Tracks like ‘Small World’ and ‘Undying Love’ showcase Nasir’s effortless storytelling skill, while ‘New York State of Mind Pt. 2' is flawless as far as sequels go and is even thought to have trumped the original by some. From monster singles (‘Hate Me Now’), quintessential rap tracks (‘Nas Is Like’), to fan favorites (‘K-I-S-S-I-N-G), the albums highlights outweigh it’s low points by far.

With all that being said, if you’re of the belief that ‘I Am’ is a trash album, it’s more than likely due to Jay Z making that thought into a trend. And we wouldn’t be mad at all, as that’s what Jay Z is known for — setting trends. But musically speaking, ‘I Am’ gets a bad rap and is far from a blemish on Nas’ career. ‘Nastradamus’ is still the weed-plate of all weed-plates, though.
