The guy was clearly a casual Nas fan. That’s fine but don’t regurgitate a narrative when you clearly haven’t done your homework. To say Nas hasn’t done anything noteworthy on dope production since IAm... is completely false. Dude said he skimmed through Kings Disease really?

That's a common issue I've noticed with people who criticize Nas' production. Most of them barely know his catalog, can't name several songs, and probably hear a few beats over time that they don't like so they think Nas has a bad ear for production.

It's one thing to not be a fan of his work, but if you're making statements about his discography as a whole, you have to know what you're talking about. He says Nas should work with more major producers. It's harder to name the people Nas hasn't worked with than the people he has. He said he wasn't a fan of King's Disease, but he skimmed through it. And the last album he named where he liked the production came out over 20 years ago. :stopitslime: Royce was right to call out the bullshyt.

exactly.

and the worse is a lot of mc's of nas' caliber dont get to be judge by the same standards. no one say ice cube, or ll cool j got bad hear for beats. I don't want to bash others to make my point across but in what world cats like method man, redman, canibus, scarface, eminem, royce (for that matter) mos def or fabulous took better beats than nas ? :what:

there's also a difference between a good beat picker and a great song maker. rick ross and the game for exemple are good beat pickers, but their beats don't translate to great songs and classic albums because their beats lacks diversity and sound the same. That's why a rapper like az never had succes in mainstream, because his beats are good, but sound the same and are not groundbreaking

nas did songs withe peak primo, extra p, pete rock, alc, dr dre, buckwild, timbo, hit boy, kanye, salaam remi, no id... when did your favorite rapper had a beat like nas is like, made you look or got ur self a gun in his career ?

You may not like a song here and there but to say he's a bad beat picker is outrageous. nas' beats he picks have the particularity to stand the test of time thanks to the soul and simple loops they have. songs like memory lane, echo, surviving the times can be listened 20 years from now their melodies are timeless. shyt a lot of jay's beats from vol 2 and 3 aged horribly. big pimpin for instance aged really bad.

Nas got rza, alc no id and pete rock on lt2 and nobody said the joints were incredible some people even said that they didnt rock with it but that's the same people that would be crying about nas not want to bring back the illmatic production team. Mega worked with these producers on his album born and raised to result was just ok.

Mike of dehh called out Ken and the other on their bullshyt regarding the beats when they reviewed kings disease.

nas' beats hits the soul different

Yep dudes know I'm not the biggest Jay fan but its hilarious the passes he get's from people. This dude done rapped on bullshyt like Pop 4 Roc S. Carter I know what Girls like for example. For every Where I'm From there's a Hollywood point is every legend with a extensive career has wack beats in the catalogue. nikkaz need to cut the bullshyt bringing up rappers like Ross nikka not in stratosphere of Nas as a MC. You listen to 1 Ross song guarantee you heard the next 50:mjlol:

I think Jay is great. But his subject matter doesn't touch Nas' :yeshrug:

Thank you Royce

Dude should have just said he doesn’t know the music like that, he spoke out of ignorance, and ended the “debate” . 7 minutes in and it’s clear he has no idea what he’s talking about and is just juelzing because he knows he has no argument. Some people will die committed to cap rather than fess up though.

I'm not doubting his greatness he's all time no doubt. I was just using him as an example every legend rap on shyt we don't like. I just get annoyed because this stigma only sticks to Nas. Like did dudes hear the production on Rakim last album Krs last 20 years LL since 2000:francis:

Im a huge Nas fan and I kind of agree with both points

Yes Nas has some questionable beats and while his catalog is better then he gets credit for somebody with his ability shouldn’t have as many just decent but not great albums as he does on his resume.

But as Royce said everyone has wack beats. And as far as catalogs all the greats have at most 2-3 classics just like Nas so it’s not like there’s others out there who don’t miss.

Why maybe Nas gets more shyt then others is probably because he actually mentioned one time how at times he purposely will pick weird or blah beats because he wants people to concentrate on his lyrics or he wants to challenge himself on hard beats to rhyme over Which I disagree with because at the end of the day it’s still MUSIC doesn’t matter how great the writing is if the beats suck.

I think what some people who say his beats are wack really have an issue with is his content

They may not like or get bored when Nas is talking about some of the stuff he does at times.

it’s like Rakim Vs Kane

Both greats but most will say Rakim was a little better but at the same time may find Kane’s music overall slightly more entertaining

it’s personal taste

Nas has never EVER not ONCE said that he purposely picks blah or “weird” beats. Find me a link to prove it.

What he DID say is that he chooses beats that speak to him and make him want to write. He also prefers to work in the studio with producers instead of having pre-selected beats sent to him. Thats why he’a got so much work with Salaam Remi, because him and Salaam meet up in the studio and Salaam crafts beats especially for Nas during the sessions.
