I mean...did you hear Hov on Jay Elect's album? He's still rapping at a GOAT tier level. Black Thought, outside of his verse on this song, has rapped on a GOAT tier level for the last few years. We don't really have a lot of material to judge (Lost Tapes 2 is largely older material, Nasir was rushed) but overall I wouldn't say Nas is rapping on a GOAT tier level right now. Like I said I'm not sure that even matters given we haven't gotten a true, full length album from him since 2012 so judging it now isn't 100% fair. Especially in comparison to Hov and Black Thought, who have released far more new material (444, A Written Testimony, Streams Of Thought 1-2, And Then You Kill Your Cousin, multiple noteworthy guest verses) over the last 5-6 years.

I normally don't expect older rappers to be great. Ghost is in my top 3 yet if I listen to a new Ghost album I know the raps probably won't be GOAT level...nor would I expect them to. Hov and Black Thought are kinda the only guys defying that right now. Not just in terms of raps...but flows. They sound agile as fukk on the mic still. I don't understand it.
Did you hear nas on that Godfather 4, echo, alina baraz jhene aiko. Adam and eve was elite level rapping too. People overrate that jayz 444. The rapping on that album wasnt even that elite. The jay electronica was better rapping from jay z but that album was mixed so horribly, I dont even go back. There were songs on the lost tapes that were newer too.

Nas just bodied Dave East in Godfather 4. And there’s tracks on Lost Tapes 2 that we’re newer, He also killed that Lil Nas X shyt. And had some dope RnB features just this year where he sounded like God’s Son era Nas. U just gassed off that Written Testimony shyt cause 4:44 aint THAT new and he ain’t rap THAT great on it. And shyt. nikkas be talkin bout Nas’ flow but there is songs on Written Testimony where both Jay and Jay Elec’s flow was like they ain’t even listen to the beat when they was rappin. Far worse than ANYTHING Nas has done in years. So I know u aint talkin bout flow and mentioning Written Testimony in the same sentence. Either way. Jay is the type that elevates depending on who he rapping with. Steel sharpens Steel. But let’s get it straight. Let’s not act like Jay ain’t have a stretch of mediocre to wack features at one point as well.

For some reason Jay's stretches of wack rapping and songs/albums don't get highlighted but boy if nas drops a song somebody doesn't like, all sudden nas is off beat, nas fell off, picks weak beats etc,..

I feel like some people will say something in the moment. But it’s easily forgotten and they act like it never existed.

I feel you, I disagree that Jay-z is rapping at a G.O.A.T. tier level tho, I don't hear that...but he is definitely still spittin and sounding good judging from the Elect shyt. Nas has moments but judging from his last 2 projects you're right, he isn't really spitting on an elite level anymore (Let's not overlook the joint with Dave East tho, he sounds like a master on there still). I think Nas is just preoccupied with other shyt tho, like Royce said about him, it seems he's more into business and shyt like that than the music right now. I'm sure if Nas locks in musically his pen can still go places that almost no one else's can...we need that.

I don't understand how people can say Nas fell off

Queensbridge Politics and It Never Ends are newer tracks, add Echo and Godfather Part IV... who's making better records than those?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best rappers today are still from the 90's... Nas, Jay, Styles, AZ in 2020 is dropping heat, Ghostface, Black Thought, last time I heard Andre spit was on that Frank Ocean joint and it was one of the best verses of the past decade

Nas just needs to do his own thing, those songs he did with Future were his worst verses last decade. He needs to stop trying to appeal to younger ears and just rhyme over beats that allow him to preach

now more than ever we need Nas and Jay-z and the others mentioned above to drop knowledge and speak on what's going on in the world, there's plenty of subject matter now - they can be the new black leaders of the world through their music.... the rest of the world will catch up to them eventually and Nas will get the credit and praise that he's long overdue for

Hold on what songs he did with future. I know you are arent saying that walk thru with future and that March madness remix were bad verses?? He ripped both of those if you go back and listen. How often does nas even try to appeal to the times instead of doing his thing? Not very often actually. Even on Nasir Cop shot da kid, not for radio, and Everything(which is very slept on by black America by the way) he spit all over that. Jay is way more likely to conform to the times than Nas is, however im sure nas will give us that normal nas rap on this next project and I'm sure sprinkle in some new sounding music which would be dope too.
