Anybody comparing Jordan to Bron is clown status. The only one coming close is Kobe. And Kobe stans are okay with #2 because Jordan is the big homie/brother anyway. Jordan had the total package. The athleticism. Skillset. Pure power. Speed. Will to be the best and dominate. Grace in the air. You’ll never see anybody fly like that sans maybe Derrick Rose. Could score at will. Came in the league averaging 28 points. Swag and charisma. My nikka was rocking gold chains and Jordan 1s yamming on nikkas It’s going to be a long time before we see anyone like him again.
Who are you people mad at the timeline jumping? Lol it’s great story telling. It’s a fukking 10 part documentary about their last championship, you need backstory dummy
No doubt, if this was a 2 or 4 part documentary showing the 97-98' season most people would love it but would unquestionably say "man, can you imagine how great it would've been if they added all the past stuff with Jordan and the Bulls with more detail".
But I also get the criticism of using the exclusive footage of the last season as the leading narrative and having to jump around back and forth. I like it but it's not a perfect gimmick. There's a reason people had all those hours and didn't know what to do with it. My guess is that the original 2 hour (or less?) DVD that was around years ago is not very good or at the very least is incredibly underwhelming.
All things considered, Hehir has done a hell of a good job with a tight schedule having to hurry up the editing process. And the doc keeps getting better each episode, I honestly can't fukking wait till 9 and 10.
This documentary would have been much worse if they only talked about Jordan's last season when he was already 35. This is not only the Last Dance but a culmination of his career. I don't see how anyone can have an issue with that. If anything , it will show more people what Jordan and the Bulls were all about not just them on their last legs.
As for you point about the Pistons. Well duh. This is a Bulls documentary attempting to cover everything from 84-98. If you want to watch something specifically about the Bad Boy Pistons, then their 30/30 is good for that. They can't waste too much time in the Last Dance talking about the Pistons.
Also, this documentary is much harder and more complicated to do than many other documentaries of its kind. There is just too much stuff to cover from Jordan's career. They're trying to be as holistic as possible.
However, thats on them for even bringing up the Bad Boys Pistons. I legit thought the first episode was just going to be a quick recap of everything from 84-97 instead of the momentum killing imo/jumping back and forth. We didnt NEED that for a Last Dance doc. If they are going to cover it then cover it fully. Not a big deal, but a missed opportunity. Let them tell it Bad Boys only won cause they were physical/dirty. Imo I see why people had trouble figuring out what to do with this footage. Cause they probably didnt want to do what they are currently doing now which is make it a greatest hits album. I mean the era is dope...so it works.
Again I admit that I was expecting nothing but 98 stuff so its probably just my expectations bothering me more than anything. That and the 80s/early 90s seem to be more interesting than the 98 stuff (already in January/Feb...and maybe got 2 topics covered)
but that’s what they’re doing. ESPN is just assuming that they’ll be people watching who wasn’t aware back then who needs to learn more about the history of Michael Jordan and the Bulls Dynasty.
“The competitive Michael Jordan. The win at ALL COST Michael Jordan. Sometimes we questioned whether he was human or if he had feelings... He was focused one thing and one thing only.
"The only emotion we had ever seen out of him was anger and frustration. We were literally stunned to see those emotions" - Will Purdue on Jordan winning his 1st ring in 1991.
I wouldn't go that far but having seen the leaked 8 episodes it becomes very clear that every chapter could've had 10-15 minutes dedicated to more playoff/Finals/rivalries.
Then again I think I just wanted to see them being highlighted because it's just great content (because I already know how great those games and rivalries were). The more casual or younger fan will be on board by the 2-5 minutes dedicated to those things and go
I was also surprised how little the doc highlights some of MJ insane stats during some huge games.
.
The director lets Marv or a talking head (and the footage do the talking) but there are some games were I think it needed more emphasis on what the viewer is watching.
In today's episode for example in Game 2 of the 91' Finals Aldridge says "and Jordan went nuts" and we see a couple of quick highlights and Marv saying "Jordan has scored 12 straight field goals" before he does the iconic layup were he switches hands. That sequence takes 30 seconds and if you are not paying attention is kinda goes over your head before they go to the importance of putting Scottie on Magic.
It's little stuff like that, and it happens in basically every ep. Now, the doc is fukking amazing so this nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking. I don't mind the 98 season being the string that holds the whole narrative together. Specially because in later episodes it gets tighter and some of the exclusive footage is fukking dope as hell. MJ pulls some shyt in the 98' playoffs that will have this thread fukking DYING
