In terms of my assessment of the plot from start to finish (which all told took me roughly 40 hours to beat), it's definitely not one of my favorite entries, but it does a good job of closing a number of storylines and providing us with a few revelations of its own. As a fan it was tough to forget Hayter at first, but Sutherland really works here, especially with how different Phantom Pain is tonally. Which again, isn't to say that it's all serious all the time, as plenty of absurd characters and storylines pop up fairly quickly. For those of you who are curious, you won't be completely lost if you haven't played previous games in the series, but Snake Eater and Peace Walker knowledge will definitely up your enjoyment of the narrative.

Destructoid

There’s so much to think about at any given time that even the most cautious players will be caught unaware. Phantom Pain requires constant improvisation, moments when a split-second decision can mean the difference between success and failure. It creates such intense and enticing moments that even after 50 hours, we’re still itching to get back in. Although it may sound overly dramatic, there were times when the game made our heart race, requiring a short break after making it through a tough situation by the skin of our teeth.

Nowhere is this more true than the boss battles. While not as personal as some of the fights in other games in the series, they still serve as culminating moments where all of your skills are put to the test. What’s most impressive is how many different ways you can overcome them. Some fights can even be entirely avoided if you’re careful and clever.
Gametrailers

9.5
Big Boss’ supposedly final outing puts players in the middle of the most ambitious entry in the series yet, and it delivers on almost everything it promises. If this is Hideo Kojima’s final game, then he is stepping out at the top floor of the industry.
The Good An open world that delivers one mechanic after another that redefines what can be done in a sandbox.
The Bad Narrative stones left unturned will disappoint superfans and sticklers.
The Ugly You have to wonder what Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain would have looked like if it hadn’t been developed for last gen as well.

depends on what your friends got mostly or if you play with them alot as for tech shyt MGSV on PS4 is 1080p 60fps on X1 it's 900P 60FPS if that makes a difference to YOU then go for PS4 if u like PS4 Exclusives more get PS4 if u like X1's more get a X1..and if u do choose x1 there's alotta bundles for it now so pick which bundle u like the most...that white X1 still fire to me

Metal Gear fans whose main draw to the series are the specialist bosses like The Cobra Unit and Foxhound will be disappointed. Nevertheless, The Phantom Pain’s boss fights present their share of challenges. With every mainline Metal Gear Solid game, I can always count on facing a select set of boss fight methodologies. There’s always a boss fight where you simply have to grind it out with heavy weapons and make wise retreats for healing. There’s always a boss fight where I find myself overthinking and upon beating the boss, I feel like a complete idiot for not finding the tactical solution sooner. There’s always a boss fight where you’re afforded a cheap tactic, like the ability to use remote controlled missiles against Sniper Wolf in the original Metal Gear Solid. The Phantom Pain offers all these opportunities, so even if it’s bereft of G.I.Joe-style specialist encounters, these breaks from the main infiltration gameplay are still welcome interludes.

I was a huge fan of the the elite team of enemies. It seems like Kojima took the story comaints to heart and gutted a lot of what the core fans really enjoyed. I'm crazy amped for this game regardless but this is a bit disappointing. Everywhere I read though they say the gameplay is absolutely incredible.

Just copped the ps4 collector's edition off ebay for $158 (:sadcam:)

I needed the collector's edition for this game. It sounds like it's too good not to have :manny:

The criticism levelled at Metal Gear Solid 4 has been taken on board and feedback used to brush up his narrative techniques. Cutscenes are shorter, getting to the point quicker, with the occasional one allowing you to “interact” by moving the camera around. Better than that, pretty much all codec and radio chatter happens while you're playing. No more staring at the same screen for hours. Fear not though, story is still a big part of The Phantom Pain, huge even, but there's now a perfect balance between that and the gameplay. Sorry, I mean glorious gameplay.
