I wouldnt be shocked if they just create some new character.

The issue is I cant think of too many actors that had his acting skill + athletic prowess + screen presence. JDW is solid in acting and athleticism, but does he have THAT level of charisma.

You gotta remember in this huge ensemble that built up so many great characters just how difficult the role Boseman had to play. He was like a great guard who knew he could get 30, but played in a system where everybody had to eat. Not everyone can just do that and still standout.

The actors I think are capable of having the skill, screen presence and charisma either already played in BP or star in other franchises.

Thats Sterling K. Brown (He's already N'Jobu) and Yayha Abudl Mateen. Jonathan Majors is an up comer, but having to carry the "weight" of that role....man.

It would be a daunting task to recast. So they are better off just creating a new character
The main problem with a new character is BP left off with the resolution being mainly tied to T’Challa answering for how Wakanda(his ancestors specifically) has acted in the past.

A new character wouldn’t have that burden.

Logically the only person who could is Shuri. Similar to T’Challa moving forward after his father’s death.

The first movie made such a point about how dangerous it is to pass the powers down in the wrong hands. It would be redundant to have another search when the character arc for Shuri to step up is right there.

Not opposed to JDW since he has the acting chops but he seems too short for the role. Are you telling me they didn’t film any scenes with Chadwick for BP2?

John Washington is 5’8 while Chadwick was 6’0 so he is quite short for the role but I’m sure the directors could give him some platform shoes to make him a bit taller. He seems like he would be able to pull off the role of Black Panther as good as Chadwick. :yeshrug:

I mean there are good arguments for both sides of the coin. We’ve seen actors take up the mantle of others before and it work super well, but its too soon IMO.

He IS Black Panther. The same way Christopher Reeves was thee Superman. Those roles will always belong to the two of them respectfully. They owned those roles. Maybe once they reset the universe they can recast.
I disagree. If there were more solo BP films, maybe he’d be the only one who could be BP, but between his father bing the BP first, seeing killmonger as BP, the expansive world they built for wakanda, the star studded cast, and marvel already doing a handoff of sorts for the roles of Thor, Ironman and captain America, I think audiences will of course miss him but be pretty receptive to a new BP

They're gonna recast the role...at least for the sequel. There's no way the one-and-done a movie with a T'Challa BP, regardless of the circumstances, AND this movie doesn't come out for another 3+ years, so they have time for the reaction to subside. Plus, with a recast, that buys them a couple of more years in age to milk the character. I think their choices are Stephan James from 21 Bridges & Rayshawn...or of course JDW. Both of them have amazing screen presence, and I'm sure could play a regal role. But best bet is recast for a 1-movie trial, and if it fails, do the Shuri storyline for the New Avengers. They recast Spidey because they didn't want the current one in the role, recast Hulk because of conflict, you really don't think T'Challa gets a recast?

If they do replace chad I like aldis. It’s a tough position to be in and honestly a lose lose situation for the franchise. Chads legacy has to be respected

He brought the character to the big screen, but people playing superheroes are replaced all of their time. Are they not putting out the zillionth Batman iteration? They are not about to not make another Black Panther. How is recasting not respecting his legacy?
