(moved this quote to the BP thread since I don’t want to sidetrack the condolences thread)

No, he doesn’t. MJB is a big name, I get it, but his performance was dogged, he’s not a strong actor, I mean he was distractingly bad in BP at times.

Tenet will make Denzel’s son a full on household name, I’m not sure how much I like his acting yet, but he could be a possible replacement. I also think someone like Aldis Hodge is a good actor, the right stature yet could benefit greatly from a role like this in regards to elevating his profile.

He is the standout performance in every review from a major publication, so where exactly are you getting that notion?

You can. Based on the first movie its already been established. Killmonger was BP.

The biggest challenge is incorporating whoever the give the mantle to into the story. It's going to be hard tho.

Agree with Jemele. The BP movie was much bigger than just the actual BP character. And it’s already part of comicbook lore to have new people assuming the role of a superhero. I know we’re in the moment, but there’s nothing disrespectful about continuing the BP character (that doesn’t mean recast T’challa, simply move on to the next BP) without Boseman.

That said, I know were in the era of more female superheroes, but I’m not ready for BP to be a woman yet, I’d rather get a legit Storm movie before BP is a woman.

Anyone who takes up the mantle of Chadwick Boseman should look similar, should remain dignified throughout, portraying a powerful warrior with some weaknesses but a strong king.

I don’t see anyone doing that but Chadwick Boseman.

And homage would certainly have to be paid to Chadwick Boseman in that we see him in the film.

Maybe the movie should start with the last scene of Black Panther where the kid approaches him on the basketball court.

Then we see the news of TChalla’s untimely death at a young age, but how much he was able to accomplish for the inner city.

Perhaps a black man who isn’t Wakandan is allowed to attend TChalla’s memorial service (maybe Shuri fell in love in the US)

And he ends up saving Shuri’s life. Now there’s a power vacuum. Mbaku tries to keep things under control, but Wakanda has become divided. Which allows the villain, whoever it is, to exploit the situation. Eventually things get so bad that Bast visits the black protagonist and provides him with the powers of the Black Panther, thought to be gone forever after Killmonger burned down the source and the last bit was given to TChalla. When he enters the realm of his ancestors (we notice former slaves in this realm although it’s not harped upon and they stand next to kings), he suddenly sees TChalla (digitally rendered) who doesn’t say a word, but passes the mantle on to the new Black Panther with a smile. The new Black Panther, with the help of Mbaku, Shuri, Okoye, and Nakia unite Wakanda against the villain and defeat him. A monument is built to TChalla and when the elders decide on MBaku as the next ruler of Wakanda, he relinquishes the throne, giving it to the Black Panther chosen by Bast and TChalla. :obama:

Considering where the MCU is now and where they were somewhat starting to go, I wouldn't be mad if they did like a soft reboot tbh. Could be a way for them to redo BP w/o really tarnishing Chadwick's BP legacy.

Not really. It was moreso his character that was and how he was written (and what he represented moreso than how he played it) that got all that praise.

He brought the character to the big screen, but people playing superheroes are replaced all of their time. Are they not putting out the zillionth Batman iteration? They are not about to not make another Black Panther. How is recasting not respecting his legacy?

Outside of the first wave of Batman movies, those "recasts" weren't really in the same universe/time/etc. And if you look at those few movies where it did happen, that's also when and part of why the Batman movies took a dive at the time. When they are of their own entities, like Nolan-verse is separate from DCEU and now this newer Batman, then recasting makes sense, cuz it's a totally new storyline and era, not within the same continuing story thread. Recasting in that sense (of replacing the previous actor in same story) has always been universally frowned upon and for good reason. And the more iconic the role of the recast, the worse it usually looks and how it turns out.
